Krabi national park acts on cliff diving trips

The management team at one of the most popular national parks on the coast of southwest Thailand has said it is banning cliff diving. The campaign to outlaw cliff diving trips in Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park begins today and will target tour operators who offer the risky activity as part of their excursion packages.

Ranger Sarayut Tansathien claimed the bulk of the tour companies offering cliff diving had zero expedience in the activity. He added that they also did not have enough staff to ensure the safety of people who were scaling cliffs or the first-aid skills needed to deal with any casualties.

The head-ranger continued by saying that cliff diving outings required proper management as there were real dangers that divers could land on swimmers in the water or on tour boats. He finished off by saying that the only companies allowed to offer cliff diving forthwith would be those with the correct licences.

Cliff diving at Noppharat Thara has won over legions of fans among the countless younger foreign tourists who visit Krabi every year. Poda Island is the most popular destination for the activity.

Krabi is noted for its portfolio of exciting adventure activities and consistently rates highly on TripAdvisor’s recommended places to go in Thailand. 12GO ASIA is a recommended source of tickets for travel to Krabi.
