New Thai multiple entry tourist visas available today

From today, travellers heading to Thailand have an additional visa option available to them. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) has launched a visa with a six-month validity which gives unlimited entries to Thailand.

The visa allows visitors to stay for 60 days per entry. After this they need to do a so-called visa-run which just involves exiting and re-entering Thailand at an officially-recognised border crossing.

Tourist agencies in the country say this type of visa should encourage tourists to use Thailand as a base to visit the neighbouring Southeast Asian nations of Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. The multi-entry visa is available from Thai embassies around the world to citizens of most nationalities including the US, the UK and Australia.

The MFA has set the price of the new visa at THB5,000. Some embassies charge more when the amount is payable in local currencies. For example, in the UK it costs £125 which works out to THB6,820 at today’s exchange rate. In Australia it is AUD225 and this is the equivalent of THB5,750.

Tourist visas are still available as single entries and cost the equivalent of THB1,000. The multi-entry visa replaces the double and triple use ones that some embassies and consulates were issuing up until yesterday.

People planning trips to Thailand can pre-book their tickets for domestic travel with 12GO ASIA. This guarantees a confirmed seat which can be important on weekends or public holidays.
