Surat Thani - สุราษฎร์ธานี

417, Wat Pradu, Surat Thani 84000, Thailand

Suratthani is a fairly large city and the capital of the south’s largest province of the same name. It is also the launch point to some of the country’s most popular tourist islands such as Koh Pha Ngan, Koh Samui and Koh Tao.

Regular buses arrive in the city from Bangkok and other major southern towns. There are daytime and overnight buses from the capital’s Southern terminal, a 12- to 13-hour trip, with VIP, air-conditioned services on offer. Given the popularity of the route, it is highly recommended that you pre-purchase tickets online to avoid disappointment.

From the Andaman side of Thailand, buses from Phuket take around six hours. It is also possible to catch a bus from Krabi, Phang Nga, Hat Yai and many other southern towns. Flights from both Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports as well as from the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, offer another option of getting to Suratthani, as does taking the train from Bangkok, although the station is 15kms outside the town at Phun Phin.

The long distance bus terminal is relatively modern and is five kilometres out of town. However, if you’re heading into town, tell the driver and he will most likely drop you off there. Otherwise tuk-tuk and other local transportation options are on hand.
