Lipe Ferry and Speedboat is an operator with a decade of experience providing transport between Pak Bara in Satun province and the popular island of Koh Lipe. The journey usually takes around 90 minutes to complete the 65km trip.
Lipe Ferry and Speedboat offers a choice of speedboat or ferry services each day between Pak Bara and Koh Lipe.
From Pak Bara there are four speedboats every day, departing at 09.30, 11.30, 13.30 and 15.00. There is also one ferry service which is scheduled to depart Pak Bara at 11.45. Tickets are priced from THB650.
Visitors looking to return to the mainland from Koh Lipe have the option of four daily services back to Pak Bara. There are three speedboats heading back to Pak Bara each day at 11.30, 13.30 and 16.00 as well as one ferry service scheduled at 09.30. Again, tickets cost from THB650 for all services.
There is a good range of departures each day, especially from the mainland to Koh Lipe so visitors should be able to pick a time that suits their schedule to visit the island. Also, Lipe Ferry and Speedboat offers the choice between speedboats and ferries which might appeal to those who suffer from travel sickness as the larger ferries are usually less rocky.
Also, Lipe Ferry and Speedboat can arrange tours and other activities including diving trips to some of the best dive spots in the whole of Thailand.
The last departures of the day in both directions are fairly early which may not be that convenient for those travelling a long distance. For example, if you are visiting from Bangkok you may not reach Pak Bara in time to catch the last service at 15.00 so you may have to spend a night in or around Pak Bara. Similarly, those leaving the island may wish to depart before 09.30 if they are heading to the capital or Hat Yai to catch a flight or other transport connection.
Reduced tickets priced at THB400 are available for children aged between four and nine years old whilst younger children can travel for free. Lipe Ferry and Speedboat also offers speedboat charters and diving trips to some of the best spots around Koh Lipe.
Passengers choose Lipe Ferry and Speedboat for the range of departure times that should suit most schedules. The operator also boasts a lot more experience than most competitors in the area so are considered by many to be a safer option than some companies along this and other similar routes.
The biggest issue is often the relatively early final departure of the day which can sometimes cause issues for those who have been travelling throughout the day from other destinations in Thailand such as Bangkok or Hat Yai. If you fly into Hat Yai’s airport in the afternoon then it will be difficult to visit Koh Lipe with Lipe Ferry and Speedboat on the same day as the last departure is scheduled to leave Pak Bara at 15.00. It can be inconvenient as you may need to stay overnight in Hat Yai or Pak Bara where options are limited.
Koh Lipe is home to some of the best diving sites in the entire country which is just one of the reasons which make the island such a highly-rated destination. The diving trips offered by Lipe Ferry and Speedboat are also highly popular among travellers and the fact that these can be organized through the same operator used to reach the island is very convenient and saves you wasting precious time of your holiday researching and arranging trips is a huge bonus!
