Ich hatte den Van plus Nachtbus nach Laos gebucht.
Die Abfahrt war für 12 Uhr an meinem Hotel geplant. Um 11 Uhr kam ein Mann vorbei, um mir mitzuteilen, dass die Abfahrt auf 14 Uhr verschoben worden war. Um 13:30 Uhr holte ihn ein anderer Mann in einem Basic-Auto ab und setzte mich am Van ab.
Der Rest lief ziemlich gut. Der Van war komfortabel und klimatisiert, er fuhr uns zu einem kleinen Shop am Straßenrand, um die Formalitäten vor der Grenze zu erledigen (ziemlich seltsam). Dort füllt man das Formular für den Zoll aus und macht Fotos für diejenigen, die keine haben. Man kann auch Bath in Kip zu einem sehr interessanten Kurs umtauschen.
Die Zollabfertigung war recht einfach, auf thailändischer Seite gab es nichts zu berichten. Auf der laotischen Seite hingegen musste man 1$ oder 50 Bath für eine Servicegebühr einplanen (nur damit sie das Formular überprüft. 40$ oder 1800 Bath für das Visum bezahlen (Achtung: in Bath ist es viel teurer). Nach dem Zoll müssen wir auf den Nachtbus warten, der uns zum Busbahnhof bringt, der zwar klein, aber mit allem Notwendigen ausgestattet ist. Der Nachtbus fuhr mit mehr als 30 Minuten Verspätung ab, das Personal war so unfreundlich wie möglich, erklärte uns nichts und sprach kein Englisch. Du findest dich in einer ziemlich engen Koje wieder, zu zweit mit einem Fremden (sie versuchen, Touristen zusammenzubringen). Und die Straße, die dich zwischen den Löchern und Kurven hin und her schüttelt, ist zum Kotzen. Um 20 Uhr gab es eine Essenspause und danach hatten wir keine Ahnung, ob es Pausen gab oder nur die Stopps der Reisenden, da nichts auf Englisch gesagt wurde.
Die Reise wird gemacht, man schläft nicht oder nicht viel, aber wenigstens kommt man gut an.

J’avais réservé le van plus bus de nuit pour le Laos.
Départ prévu à 12h à mon hôtel. Un monsieur est venu à 11h passé pour me prévenir que le départ était repoussé à 14h. A 13h30 un autre homme en voiture basic est passé le chercher, m’a déposé au van.
La suite s’est plutôt bien passé. Le van était confortable et climatisé, il nous a conduit à un petit shop en bord de route pour faire les démarches avant la frontière (plutôt bizarre). On y rempli le formulaire pour la douane et prendre des photos pour ceux qui n’en ont pas. On peut aussi faire le change des baths en kip à un taux très interessant.
Le passage de la douane a été assez facile, rien à signaler côté thaïlandais. Par contre côté laotien, prévoir 1$ ou 50 baths de frais de services (juste pour qu’elle vérifie le formulaire. Payer 40$ ou 1800 baths de visa (attention en baths c’est beaucoup plus cher). Passer les douanes il faut attendre pour aller prendre le bus de nuit, on nous conduit à la gare routière petite mais avec le necessaire. Le bus de nuit est parti avec plus de 30 min de retard, le personnel était mal aimable au possible, on ne nous expliquait rien et ils ne parlaient pas anglais. Tu te retrouves dans une couchette plutôt étroite à deux avec un inconnu (ils essayent de mettre les touristes ensemble). Et la une route qui te secoue dans tous les sens entre les trous et les virages c’est à avoir envie de vomir. Une pause dîner à eu lieu à 20h et après aucune idee s’il y avait des pauses ou juste les arrêts des voyageurs car rien n’est dit en anglais.
Le voyage se fait, on ne dort pas ou pas beaucoup mais au moins on arrive à bon port

Die Fahrt zur Grenze war perfekt, das Taxi half mir sehr bei den Formalitäten usw., vielen Dank noch einmal an sie.
Der Bus war jedoch nicht sehr komfortabel, es gab keine Matratzen, man war zu zweit in einer Koje und es gab nicht viel Platz, so dass man die Privatsphäre eines Fremden teilte, wenn man alleine unterwegs war. Wir wurden mehrmals von Lärm, Taschenlampen auf dem Kopf und vom Zoll geweckt, der meinen Taschenschutz im Frachtraum zerriss.
Es ist sicherlich eine Erfahrung, aber wenn Sie Komfort brauchen, nehmen Sie lieber das Flugzeug :)

Le trajet jusqu'à la frontière était parfait, le taxi m'a énormément aidé pour les formalités etc, merci encore à eux.
En revanche le bus n'était pas du tout confortable, pas de matelas, vous êtes deux par couchette et il n'y a pas énormément de place, autant dire que vous partagez l'intimité d'un inconnu si vous êtes seuls. Nous avons été réveillés à plusieurs reprises par le bruit, les lampes torches sur la tête et par la douane qui a déchiré mon protège sac dans la soute.
C'est certe, une expérience mais si vous avez besoin de confort prenez plutôt l'avion :)

Wir haben es in einem Stück nach Laos geschafft, aber der Bus war eine Erfahrung, die ich nie vergessen werde, haha. Der Bus war überfüllt mit Leuten, die auf der Insel schliefen. Ich wachte durch das Geräusch einer Frau auf, die sich heftig übergeben musste. Der Bus war sehr unruhig und wackelig.

We made it to Laos in one piece but the bus was an experience I will never forget haha. The bus was over packed with people sleeping in the isle. I woke up to the sound of a lady being violently sick. The bus was very jumpy and rocky.

I really can't recommend this and would suggest using another tour provider.
Got the slow boat from Chiang Rai to Luang Prabang.
Pick-up was on time and the van was air conditioned. Everything before the border was fine. Smooth leaving Thailand but entering Laos was a nightmare. No guidance given throughout this, other than by a man who couldn't confirm his identity and honestly we thought we were being scammed.
Had to pay visa fee and a tourist tax directly to him, not border officials which really did not seem right.
The transfer was overbooked and me and my partner were crammed into the seat of a pick up with our main backpacks and day packs on top of us. We were provided a sandwich but there was no vegetarian or vegan option.
Made it to the ferry point and we were the last group to get there out of all the other tour providers meaning we didn't and many others didn't get a seat on the actual boat as it was overbooked.
Would I do it again? Yes the slow boat was crowded but had stunning views - but definitely not with this tour provider.

The part in Thailand was an absolute pleasure! The driver was super nice and on time. The car was very good as well.
The service at the borders was a bit confusing but okay. Just once of the travelling companions didn’t get her train QR code at the borehole so she couldn’t continue and had to stay over at the train station village for another day! So be careful to get the QR code at the border.
However, the part in Laos is where the “fun” starts. We thought that the van part is done and we’ll be taken to a train, but no! You’ll get another van for about 4,5h. You’d think, no problem I’ll just work, watch film, read a book, scroll insta or whatever.. on the way. Just forget it, the only thing you’ll do the whole way is to hold hard on to something and to pray to god that you’ll survive and reach your destination in one piece! And it absolutely doesn’t matter if you are an atheist! 🤣
Ok I’m a little bit exaggerating but honestly only very little.. it was the scariest ride I have experienced in my entire life and I have been travelling Asia for a couple of months already 😅 I very much doubt that the driver has a driver’s license (or he is Thai and is used to driving left ) and I’m sure he has no clue about something as a safety of his passengers 😅 so so so many risks he took while overtaking another vehicle and I’m not even talking about his speed! You’re just flying from side to side during his crazy flight. He was insane!
It definitely was an experience I will never forget but I doubt I will ever take this ride again 😄
There was no toilet stop during the 4h drive! We had to request one after 3h as it was unbearable anymore.
PS: if you are experiencing just a little bit of a motion sickness, I advise you to take a pill before this trip!
Once we arrived to the train station, the driver kicked us out and that was it! No explanation, no instructions, nothing. And there was super mess! There were vans picking and dropping people everywhere, a few hundred of people waiting in front of the station, total mess and we didn’t know what to do or what time the train leaves 🙈 (one of our travelling companions didn’t get her train ticket and there was not a single person to help her! If that happens to you, just call the company you booked the trip from, they will sort it out for you as nobody else can)
Once we managed to get through the security (3x small 250mil water was ok and we didn’t try larger container and small kitchen knife was ok as well) the train was nice, comfortable and on time.

In Thailand everything went smooth. We were helped with filling out the paperwork needed for crossing the border. We were one of the first to actually cross the border and it was very helpful we already filled in our paperwork. Across the border we were picked up and with a van and it was a very bumpy 4 hour drive to the train station with 1 stop. We arrived at the train station 1 hour early and everything went smooth.
