VIP x 4 sleeper was not as expected. Reasonably clean however loads of bugs everywhere including small cockroaches. 2 free bottles of water but no snacks. Mixed male and female and train ran almost an hour late. My standards were never high to begin with but this was slightly lower than expected. Also train does not just stop at Da Nang but multiple stops. Ensure to ask when you are arriving at your destination and set an alarm to wake you up around that time. It would be easy to miss your stop.

As we arrived After 5pm we showed our Voucher to the Lady in charge of the announcements at the Train Station. She wrote the numbers 1 and 2 for our beds on it and told us that it was ok and that we should wait. The Train arrived 45 min. late. We had to Cross the Tracks for getting into our Coach no.9. The bedsheets were clean, but the Toilette very Dirty and no paper. We got just ohne bottle of water and no Snacks. There was no Information or announcements in English. I would not call this a luxurious VIP Train at all.

train is dirty even though you get the vip class .. very narrow beds and i think the blanket is used by the previous passenger.. toilet is filthy.. service is bad.. no much food choices, better bring your own food you will get very hungry.

Cabin was very nice with snacks also... male staff member asked money to have only 3 in cabin$200000, offered us white or red wine no charge then kept knocking on door a lot which was very odd... only for him to then charge us $400000 dong for wine.. we were suprised .. he then said $100000 dong then came back and said dont worry but we would have to have tea coffee in morning for $120000... the no 11 carriage was empty when we boarded 15:30pm at Hue' then upon the half way mark there were a lot of people in the cabins.. all full.. running around.. screaming.. very noisy... not the type of people that would have paid that much for ticket!!! We travelled from saigon to danang in first class sleeper , paid quarter price and had top service, no noise.. would not recommend again..

Train was okay. Not VIP sleeper as it says. Other passengers in my cabin took all the space under beds and on floor so no space for my bags or legs.

Much better experience than expected. It was a bit confusing at the station with exchanging our voucher for tickets. Kept getting told to wait by the woman behind the desk. Then everyone started queuing to go onto platform and got tickets at that stage.
We shared our cabin with two passengers who took up all the floor space with huge cases. We just had backpacks so kept them on our beds. So if you can afford it, buy 4 tickets for the whole cabin!! Got coke, water, a cake and banana. Beds were ok and we slept well. A pillow, thin duvet and blanket provided. There is a car to buy food and drink and also a food trolley goes along too. Toilets were kept clean although toilet roll was gone by the morning. Our departures and arrivals were bang on time.

We had no tickets on the railway station (!!!!!!), so we didn't know until last moment if we will able to depart! This situation was very stressful. Everyone was looking strange onto your voucher and was not able to help us. In the train, we had 6 people in cabin (in 4 berth sleeper!!!), toilets were horrible and the train was full of cockroaches. On the next trip, we have bought airplane tickets, becouse this experience was horrible.

Staff were well organised and we were directed to our cabin efficiently. Cabin and beds clean and comfortable. Only major concern was the toilet! Once the train started moving there was water slopping out of it - the floor was 5cm deep in water from the toilet, and the water was at a high level and slopping around in the bowl which made it unuseable, not ideal for an overnight trip!

Exchanging tickets at Hanoi was not as described in the materials provided. There is no desk - you just have to try and find the fellow wandering around who has your tickets.
The train itself was fine - hard beds, a little dirty, air conditioning too high, sheets felt a bit sodden, bathroom gets progressively worse over the trip, people smoking in the cabins and on the car (which filtered into our cabin through the aircon).
But - perfectly acceptable for the price paid, distance traveled, and the fact it’s Vietnam not London. Plenty of water and snacks in the cabin, snack cart cafe by from time to time, train arrived perfectly on time.
Please sort out the ticket situation at Hanoi. Then it would be 4 stars.

VIP did not feel like VIP. Yes we got one free soda, water, banana and a bread roll. But besides that the bed was hard and the room a/c was very cold. The toilets were disgusting, seat and floor wet and lack of toiletpaper. The staff was friendly, but no one could any english. The best help was a phone with google translate. The “restaurant” in the first wagon only serves noodles and the room is messy and not very clean. Our trip was a 16 hour long trip from Hanoi to Danang, sadly it ended up being 22 hours with a lot of waiting between stations and a switch to a bus and back to a train just before Da Nang due to flooded tracks. More informations in english during the tour would have been apreciated. Advise is to take an airplane instead of waisting many hours in what must have felt like being in prison. Sorry!

Clean train with some refreshments gratis. Still the perennial problem with smelly, overflowing toilets but this is actually due to people not flushing properly - press the flush button and water flows in to the pan. Press and hold, the flap opens and the pan empties with suction assistance. So press and hold, people!
Train a bit late but not a problem. Nice view of the country and good craic with fellow travellers.

As safe, reliable and cheap(ish) way to get from Hanoi to Hue this couldn't be faulted. The train was on time, the berths comfortable and the linen clean. I'm not sure what some of the other negative reviewers on this site were expecting? Of course it wasn't a 5 star bedroom - its a train! - but we had no trouble sleeping, bed was comfortable and the rocking carriage probably helped us off to sleep, rather than keeping us awake.
Two small quibbles: (1) when we arrived 60 mins before departure the friendly cabin steward had no record of our booking, but found us a couple of berths anyway. And (2) when I booked with 12Go Asia a month ago they couldn't honour my preferred journey so booked this alternative before I'd confirmed it because "with so few berths left we did not want to risk being unable to complete the booking". Yet the young German couple who shared our compartment had only booked the day before and paid 40% less than us.
That said, this was still great value and good trip.

The cabin and toilets were relatively clean for most of our journey, the guard was very helpful and professional - he introduced himself to us straightaway and answered any questions we had. We were provided with complimentary water, snacks and beer which was a pleasant surprise. The air-conditioning was excellent in our cabin. The train departed and arrived on time.

Linens and cabin were clean and overall everything was ok with the actual train ride. Much better than the standard VN railways cabin. However a lot of confusion while attempting to board with only a voucher. A LOT. Basically the staff wasn't letting us on the train because we did not have printed tickets. We were asked to step aside and wait. My wife and I started to get very worried because none of the staff knew what to do with us until last minute someone came running with our tickets. No sure what exactly transpired, but we were only then were we allowed to board.

I paid for a Livitran ticket and was given a berth in a car with a plastic mattress that had no bedding. People opened the door every 10 minutes and the car was filthy. Interestingly the livitran car was next to this car filled with a tour group of students. I bought my ticket a month ago. I would like to be refunded for the money I spent for a service I did not receive. This car was much worse than the 1st class soft sleeper that was half as much money.

Good value, bananas, bread and water provided. Beds close together. Traveled as a couple. Killed two cockroaches and two mosquitos. Train clicks and clacks as trains do. Toilets fine.

Even though we originally booked 2 lower births in a cabin. After a couple of stops the guard insisted that I moved to the upper birth to allow a lady to have the lower one. But the upper birth was comfortable once I had managed to get up there. The guard knocked on the door to let us know that our station was next and directed us to our exit.

If you ignore the rough tracks the train is driving on, it’s perfect. But thats everywhere the same. With a sleeping pill the time flies. Everything was good, other companies have nicer wagons, but it was clean and we got small bags with bananas and water. So all in all it’s good to travel with.

The 4 berth on Livi is not as good as the 2 berth on Vietnam rail. Random people come in and out for different stops and the cabin door is a bit loose rattling on every move. The Livi operator just came and disappeared. No wifi available

Nothing like VIP … the place is just basic, not clean. The staff at the station was not aware of this kind of reservation. After 15 minutes and calling someone they gave me a ticket with a different coach number … don’t expect much… if you want a VIP treatment, book a premium car not the train!

The Staff are very helpful, my friend and I had the 4x vip sleeper to ourselves which made things a lot more comfortable! We both slept on and off, you kind of get use to the swaying and stopping and starting motion, it’s a little noisy so take ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper

Bathrooms were disgusting, my cabin was nice and clean, but one woman was complaining of roaches in hers. It was an ok experience. Train was bumpy so was unable to get a good nights rest, but it could have been worse.

Very nice trip. The beds and room were tidy, blankets adequate. Nice free snacks and drinks.. Star of the trip was the scenery- Amazing. Toilet wasn't too scary by the journeys end. Hardest part was the confusion of checkin at Hanoi Train Station. But this was worked out by us and the rest was easy.

We travelled with Livitrans and on the voucher, there was written that the paper itself is a boarding pass. But the staff did not let us in. Luckily, we asked a lady in the near bistro (she was surprised as we were) and she called someone else who came with our tickets. It was one big chaos! The staff in the trained asked us if we want tea or coffee in the morning, but in the morning, they wanted us to pay for it. For comparison - from Hanoi to Lao Cai, we used Fanxipan Express and the morning refreshment was for free, beds were longer and air condition was fine. Air condition in Livitrans was really cold - people sleeping downstairs had to sleep in jackets and hats!

We had a voucher four four people in a 4 person VIP sleeper. I went to the station the day before to try to get the actual tickets with cabin numbers but was told to return a half an hour before the train. We arrived an hour before and were told to wait and then someone ushered us through to the train with just the voucher. He was a helpful employee with no English but he got us to our cabin. The cabin looked fine but the teenage girls with us were freaked out by three different bugs going up the wall. Air con was nice and cold. It is great to leave from city centre in HCMC and arrive into the city centre of Nha Trang. We didn't see much scenery because we went overnight but previously enjoyed good views on longer routes. The toilets were very basic but functional.

Sleeper car looked absolutely nothing like the pictures and the cabin was clearly much, much older! However, linen was clean, room was also quite clean and had enough space for all the luggage. Air con was ultra high (which was okay for most, but got a bit too cold overnight). Train left and arrived on time. Was expecting (based on previous reviews)horrible toilets, but they were, actually, very normal!

Not sure if the fault here lies with 12goasia or livitrans. As per many other reviews on tripadvisor this did not seem to be a livitrans service but a standard vnr train. Whilst I’m not bothered by this and the train was fine it was not as advertised and the communication about how to pick up tickets was awful. Just so people know you exchange the voucher at the desk in Da Nang station for your tickets...

As with other reviews, there was no Livitrans ticket place at HCMC. We had to ask platform staff for help. Carriage nothing like pictures and no different from standard despite paying extra. Small bottle of water and a face wipe was all that was provided. AC worked. Bring earplugs!
