I booked this bus mainly because the advertised journey time was very attractive — only 5 hours, from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The day before the trip, the operator contacted me and confirmed the booking. They told us to arrive 20 minutes before departure. We arrived on time. The bus was nowhere to be seen.
There was another bus parked nearby, but it was empty and there was no driver around. I contacted the operator and asked where our bus was. Their answer was that our bus was stuck in traffic and that we should wait.
So we waited.
One hour passed. Then another.
The bus finally arrived at 9:30 AM — 2.5 hours after the advertised departure time.
But here comes the best part: we were the only passengers who had been waiting there since 7:00 AM. All the local passengers showed up at 9:30, exactly when the bus actually departed.
So apparently the local passengers have some magical ability to know the real departure time better than the people who actually booked the 7:00 AM bus. Either that, or the operator has a very creative understanding of what a “departure time” means.
Even more interestingly, we didn't actually leave on the bus that arrived at 9:30. We left on the exact same bus that had been sitting there all morning.
So I have a very reasonable question: was our 7:00 AM departure simply cancelled, while we were being fed the “stuck in traffic” story for 2.5 hours? I obviously can't prove what happened behind the scenes, but from a passenger's perspective, that's exactly what it looked like.
The bus itself was actually quite decent and comfortable. However, the USB charging port in my capsule didn't work, which isn't great when you're supposed to spend 6.5 hours on the road.
Instead of the advertised 5 hours, the journey took around 6.5 hours. In total, we lost roughly 4 hours of our time — 2.5 hours sitting around waiting for a bus that apparently wasn't coming, plus another 1.5 hours spent on the road beyond the advertised travel time.
The bus is fine. The organization is not.
If you value your time, I would definitely recommend choosing another operator.
The driver had made multiple stops to load cargo like fish and vegetables. The fish water spilled on our luggage and the total drive took 2 hours more.
The transport service was excellent. The bus was modern and very spacious, and the staff provided us with water and snacks. The bed was also surprisingly spacious and comfortable. I can absolutely recommend this service!
The plug was not functioning
And because I was European the driver took for granted I was going to Phong Na while I paid to go to Dong Hoi. It’s only after calling the service center we found an agreement. Thanks again to the service center and not to the driver who was super rude.
The schedule was for 22:00 to 6:15. We were kindly advised that it would be pushed back to 22:15. No problem there. What we were not told is that they would decide to take the highway and rush to Phong Nha to wake us up at 4:30 am. Defeats the purpose of a night bus…
We were just woken up at 4:30 to tell us we had arrived. Brutal awakening, feels like being evicted in the middle of the night. Travelling with 2 young children, waking them up this early and dropped off in the middle of a sleeping town was not a fun experience. The driver laughed it off saying they needed to keep going to drop off another passenger to Hoi An.
Operator reached out prior to confirm which was good so we could contact.
Pick up easy.
Drop off 4 hours earlier than advertised!! Meaning we had to pay for a hostel for rest of night as we were unable to check into hotel yet and middle of the night meant we couldn’t do anything.
The bus itself was really nice and comfortable but we arrived two hours late. There was no communication at all. And I had to ask twice for a toilet break.
A few days before departure TP Booking sent email notifying new time and place of pick up. I showed up there early, but was informed they tried to reach me on WhatsApp (my number is not a WhatsApp number) and sent another email changing the place (back to original) and time (even earlier) 45 minutes before the changes went into effect. I don't monitor my email 24/7 so did not see the second change. Initially, TP Booking tried to put the blame on me which I rejected. Then I got the worst berth on the bus, in the back with head room 2/3 the other berths and on the bottom. I'm 74 and fairly tall so found it difficult to squeeze into the coffin sized berth. I complained and they transferred me to another bus 3 hours into the journey where I got an upper berth. They did make an effort to accommodate me after totally screwing up the trip to start. I appreciate it, but won't be traveling with them again. Also, 12GO Asia did not give me a choice of berths when I bought my ticket. If I had been given a choice I would have chosen an upper berth and that would have solved one of the problems on this trip.
The driving itself was fine.
Getting the right people on the bus was a struggle. I had to insist 3 times to get on, the driver kept telling me I wasn’t on his lists. Its only when I showed him the license plate matched the one on my text that he let me on. The driver let another passenger on that wasn’t supposed to be on our bus creating a conflict since he refused to get off the bus. Because of that we left 30 minutes late.
Once the bus left, the driver smoked cigarettes the whole way to our destination making the fire alarm ring! It smelt bad and was very disturbing.
The bus ride was supposed to be 8 hours long overnight but ended up being 5 and a half hours meaning we arrived at 4am making it impossible to access our Airbnb.
Booking was for 10:30, then we were told via WhatsApp it was going to be 10:00, so we got to the bus station early, to then be told the bus was delayed to 12:15. We were sent a photo of the bus and it's number plate. Luckily we asked the bu station attendant, who pointed out a completely different bus which he said was ours. Turned out it was. Bus was comfortable and rest stops were announced, which was useful.
No complaints - the bus was clean, driver was nice and I slept the entire way through. To the point that I think I scared a poor employee who tried to wake me up and I was so deep asleep that I screamed out of shock when he finally managed to shake me awake. Luckily he laughed it off just as I did.
The Bus departed late, which we were informed about, so that was fine (nothing official from 12Go Asia tho).
We specifically booked a Nightbus to arrive at 6:15am and were really disappointed when we arrived 4:00am already. It is totally different to arrive in the middle of the night and we needed to get another hotel night. Also, we needed to change the bus around 12am, two hours after departure, which was not on the itinerary of the booking.
Bus was delayed, we didn’t knew which bus to take because more buses had the same name. No one could speak English or wanted to help. They simply ignored you. The drivers did not check the names on the list. Everyone could get in the bus… Some people who had a ticket, were not allowed to go in. When we finally departed, the driver played loud music in the sleepersbus and they talked very loud.
The VIP seats were comfortable though. And also the Whatsapp contact with your collegue who told me about the delay was good.
All in all quite good for a bus here in Vietnam. The bed was pretty clean and we departed on time. The trip was about 2h shorter than it said on the ticket however, which was nice but also meant that we arrived too early to check in at our accommodation since we had given the wrong arrival time!
The same as always: they arrive way too late (which is fine bc of the traffic they can‘t control) but then drive like crazy at insane speeds so you arrive there 1 1/2 hours early, which is very inconvenient when you take a night bus. Apart from that, bus was clean and driver friendly.
Bed was comfortable for me as a 5'2" woman but my husband found it too short for him to sleep. The driver drove with a minimum of honking and we arrived over an hour early!
We were crammed into the back of the bus laying in sleeper beds that were 5 side by side with no separation. 4 larger size men and 1 women made for a very uncomfortable ride.
This is where we were directed to go even though there were other empty beds. Spent three hours basically touching the people on either side of us. Not fun.
We were also frantically transferred to a shuttle for final short trip into Hue. Probably running late because there was so many stops along the way to pick up people.
This was one of the worst night bus experiences I’ve had in Vietnam and South East Asia as a whole. We only had one toilet stop for a 7.5 hour journey. The bus was absolutely freezing, and the air vent in my bunk was broken, so I was very cold and ended up unwell. The blanket given to me was absolutely filthy. The light in my bunk was broken. There was no usb-c or plug charger sockets. The drivers kept making random stops for up to 45 minutes at a time, which made the bus run late. It wasn’t clear what these stops were for or whether we were meant to be getting off. The bunks were absolutely tiny in comparison with other companies I’ve used. I personally wouldn’t book with this company again.
They dropped us off at a different location then mentioned in the booking (30min away from the address, by car) We left half an hour early and still arrived 2 hours late. The phone charging station wasn’t working. One place where they dropped us off for a toilet break was soo dirty. You really could not go there.
In the evening before departure I was told I have to take a different bus, departure at 7 am instead of 10.30 am. The bus was far less comfy than the one I booked. I got a refund of 50k, which was only a small amount compared to what I paid.
The Bus was comfortable and left on time. Unfortunately we had an extra stop in a garage where some maintenance / repair work was done while we were waiting. This inculded an oil change of the bus. Overall we arrived over 2h late at our destination.
