Don Mueang to Chiang Mai Destination Reviews

NP
Quite a straightforward trip, only small issue was at Mochit bus station and trying to find the counter to collect the ticket, which is outside by the way! But the bus was quite comfortable, a bit cramped in terms of leg room to sleep as you can’t fully recline but to be expected as you are on the bus. But really good price and managed to even get some sleep!

I took this trip with a friend of mine. We booked it only a few days before departure via the 12Go Asia website. The booking was easy and quick. You could not chose a seat but our assigned seats were next to each other. The price was much cheaper than the sleeper train (about half). The bus was clean and quite spacious with enough room to store bigger backpacks in between the seats. Big luggage was put into the trunk of the bus. The seats were quite comfortable and could be set back almost into a straight position. Sadly, the arm rests could not be moved or taken off. Every seat included a blanket which was a bit small but enough, a bottle of water and a food pack with a muffin and a juice. The Check in was easy. It said first floor in the email so we thought we’d have to go up some stairs but the counter was right at the ground floor. The counter itself was easy to find and the check in was very quick. We arrived 30mins before departure to check in and the bus took off exactly on time. The drive was quick, we even arrived an hour early. The staff was quite strict but not unfriendly. There was a stop around 11pm with a 20min break where we could get free food with our ticket (a buffet with Thai food and mandarin oranges) and water and walk around a bit. A toilet on the bus was available and clean enough. The AC worked well but you could not turn it down or off which made it a little annoying when trying to sleep. The lights were kept off for most of the trip and there were also curtains on the windows. A USB port was available at some window seats (on the ceiling next to the AC) but I did not use it so I don’t know if it worked. All in all it was a fine trip. Almost as comfortable as a bus can be and it got us to our destination easily. The price was cheap especially considering everything that it included.

The staff were amazing and attentive, the drive was on time and I have no complaints there. The only negative would be the aircon was FREEZING! So I would recommend bringing a jumper

We took the night bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Instead of 6pm our bus came more than 1 hour later. We were waiting since 5.30pm and waited right in front of the ticket office. Nobody told us anything first. After more than half an hour too late, we asked what is going on. They just said, we have to wait a bit. After 1 hour we asked again and then one guy called for us for information. After more than an hour we finally were picked up. But there was too much luggage that one person had to stand instead of sitting in the van. We were lucky that we switched into a big night bus after a short time. The night bus itself was okay. The A/C worked, we got 1 burger and water. There was a tiny toilet in the bus and we were punctual in Chiang Mai although our bus was too late first. But the driver drove very fast at the end. All in all it was okay, but there should be more information, especially when you wait with your luggage and nobody informs you about when the bus actually arrives. It was a bit weird and a bit a waste of time. If we had known that we have to wait that long, we would have taken a massage or something.

Everything felt rushed, stopped once. It felt like the lady who worked for the company did not want to be there at all, was annyoed by travelers questions. She could speak English but only said ideal information in Thai. But the seats was the worst part, looking back I should have booked 3rd class train cause was not worth the money.

Terrible experience. We are still on the bus, already 6 hours into what is supposedly an 11-hour trip, and it has not stopped even once at a service area to eat or simply stretch our legs. We were offered some sweets before departure, but they were nothing special and obviously not enough. The woman in charge didn’t speak a single word of English and was extremely rude. Almost every hour we stopped to pick up other passengers, yet we were not allowed to get off the bus, even when the stops lasted up to 10 minutes. Overall, a very uncomfortable and frustrating trip. I absolutely do not recommend this company.

Bus took 17.5 hours to get there. Stopped to repair lights that weren’t working. Odd stops in the middle of nowhere. Indirect route. Stopping 7 times at service stations for no reason. Maybe cooling problems, I don’t know? Gearbox issues on the steep bits. What a nightmare!

It was so freezing in the bus that I thought I’m going to die (I was wearing long pants and a jacket already, as I knew that the buses are idiotic cold). Besides that, everything else was quite good for a bus ride.
