Qatar Airways, Malaysia Airlines to Expand Codeshare Agreement

Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines are expanding their codeshare agreement starting from 27 January 2020.

Currently the codeshare agreement covers 10 destinations operated by Qatar Airways. From Jan 27, Malaysia Airlines passengers will be able to reach 20 more destinations served by Qatar Airways in Europe, America, and Africa booking flights from Doha to Vienna, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Munich, Athens, Rome, Oslo, Barcelona, Madrid, Geneva, and Zurich.

For Qatar Airways' passengers the new agreement means a wider network of available routes in Southeast Asia including several destinations in Malaysia – Sibu and Alor Setar – and Indonesia – Medan and Surabaya. The total number of codeshare routes in Malaysia Airlines’ network will reach 24.

The two airlines started their codeshare cooperation back in 2001 providing passengers with convenient and hasslefree connections. "The expansion of codeshare cooperation between Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines is a natural next step in the strengthening of our partnership,” Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Mr. Akbar Al Baker commented on the case.

Qatar Airways flies between Doha and Kuala Lumpur three times a week. In 2018, The Doha–Penang route was added which was followed by the Doha–Langkawi service a year later. Both routes enjoy popularity and are operated five times a week.
