THAI to relaunch Luang Prabang flights

Thai Airways International has announced it is to relaunch flights to the heritage city of Luang Prabang in northern Laos. The Thai national carrier will offer three flights a week in each direction between Bangkok and Luang Prabang from 1 October 2014.

Outbound flights will depart from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 12:25 and arrive at Luang Prabang Airport at 14:00. Return flights are scheduled to depart at 14:50 and land back in Bangkok at 16:25.

THAI will up the flight frequency to four a week from October 2014. Flights will then operate every Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The airline’s website has a promotional offer on round-trip tickets between the two destinations which start at THB6,550, although online reservations websites are usually cheaper.

The launch of the new service will coincide with the start of the peak tourist season in Thailand, Laos and other Southeast Asian nations. THAI subsidiary THAI Smile previously flew the same route over the last high season.

Following the maiden flight in mid-December 2013, the carrier serviced the route with A320s until arbitrarily terminating services in March of this year. At the time the flights were operating, the A320 was the largest aircraft to land in Luang Prabang.
