Sauberkeit mangelhaft in 1.
My journey was a 6 berth sleeper from Ninh Binh to DaNang. It was an experience worth doing but I wouldn't rush to do it again - rather I would pay a few dollars extra to go to the nearest airport and fly. On boarding, I had someone in my bunk and had to get them to move. A family of 6 was using 4 bunks and had used most of the floor space with their luggage which included something leaking. The train carriages are old, and it is at times a very rough ride. Happy to say toilets were clean, but they are very small.
We had the first class cabin. We were very worried due to the other reviews about cleanliness and the toilet etc. But it was OK. Not great but not horrifying (certainly not how i imagine 1st class to be though). Bed was hard but wide enough. The upper beds dont get access to the desk or to see out of the window so take the lower bunks if you have a choice. The bed sheets are definitley not changed between people. Pray you dont get a man who snores in your cabin.
Except that we choose bed number 1 and 2 and then got 3 and 4. We choose them so we would be in the downs one and no one was taken when we ordered. That is a little bit annoying
I made the trip with my children (one of whom is 10 years old and has a chronic condition, type 1 diabetes), and upon entering, we were pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the accommodation; I thought we would get some good rest. However, during the night, there was a smell of tobacco smoke—apparently caused by an employee in a cabin in the same carriage. Just as we seemed to be settling in to rest, very loud music started playing—I don't recall the exact time, but I think it was around 5:30 or 6:00 AM. On top of that, every 10–15 minutes, someone would walk by shouting offers of coffee or other things. Consequently, what was supposed to be a trip where we could sleep and rest turned into a nightmare of a night.
lease keep this in mind for future travelers; we chose this option to get some rest, but that was not the case.
