Tuỳ thuộc vào chiều dài của hành trình cũng như nhu cầu, bạn có thể chọn vé tàu hạng nhất hoặc hạng hai trong khoang giường nằm đối với các chuyến tàu đêm, hoặc chọn vé ghế mềm hoặc ghế cứng. Có nghĩa là chuyến tàu bạn chọn có thể có vé giường nằm hạng nhất, nhưng bạn sẽ không đặt được nếu như bạn chỉ đi một trình ngắn trong 2 tiếng. Ưu & Nhược điểm của đường sắt
Ưu điểm của đi tàu:
- Lợi thế lớn nhất của đi tàu hoả là không có việc tắc đường. Ngay cả khi vào giờ cao điểm, cuối tuần hay mùa nghỉ lễ.
- Có thể đặt vé tàu online dễ dàng - bạn không cần phải đến tận ga tàu mới mua được vé.
- Giá vé tàu thường khá “mềm" khi so sánh với giá vé máy bay cho cùng một điểm đến, và thậm chí tổng thời gian di chuyển thì tương đương nhau.
- Dù tốc độ di chuyển tàu hoả chậm hơn đi máy bay, thì các ga tàu hoả lại thường được đặt ở trung tâm thành phố, sẽ giúp bạn tiết kiệm được rất nhiều thời gian di chuyển do sân bay thường đặt rất xa trung tâm.
- Đi tàu đêm sẽ giúp bạn tiết kiệm một đêm phòng khách sạn, và bạn cũng có thể dễ dàng ngủ ngon - ngược lại với xe khách đêm, đôi khi rất khó khăn để có thể ngủ trên xe khách.
- Đối với một số tuyến, các hãng tàu có cả dịch vụ cao cấp
Nhược điểm của đi tàu:
- Đối với các hành trình dài, đi tàu chắc chắn sẽ tốn nhiều thời gian hơn máy bay.
- Tàu thường khởi hành đúng giờ, nhưng cũng có trường hợp lịch tàu chạy bị thay đổi - và trong trường hợp đó thì giờ tàu có thể bị trễ rất lâu. Vậy nếu bạn lên kế hoạch cho một chuyến bay nối tiếp, hãy kiểm tra kỹ thời gian tàu vào ga và cân nhắc kỹ lưỡng.
- Vệ sinh trên khoang tàu có thể là một vấn đề đối với khoang hạng hai hoặc hạng ba, và cả nhà vệ sinh.
- Nếu tàu bạn chọn có nhiều điểm dừng, đôi khi bạn sẽ gặp khó khăn để xác định ga xuống, vì có thể các điểm dừng không được thông báo rõ ràng hay không có bảng thông báo hiển thị trên tàu.

Great service. It is worth to pay for priority support. The train ride from Kandy to Nanu Oya was an amazing experience. The train was late but that did not matter as this gave us more time to enjoy the landscape.

Overall great experience. Immediately after booking (34 days prior train departure) we received an email with a booking confirmation, however, it took very long until we received the ticket confirmation/voucher (11 days prior train departure). The shipping of tickets went smooth, however, we never received an email confirming the shipment of the tickets as it was mentioned in the ticket confirmation email.
So overall the train ride was superb, just a little bite nerve killing waiting for confirmation or hoping tickets will arrive:)

The views were amazing and the towns charming. I loved that the windows open right up making the cabin comfortable and aerated and great for photo taking.
Booking via 12go website saved us time and effort. The tickets delivered securely to our hotel too. Will definitely use 12go for future trips

Excellent service .. like clockwork. I ordered 3 sets of tickets and had them delivered to my hotel. I was refused the delivery charge for two sets of tickets as they were out in the same envelope.. very impressive.
Don't bank on definite train times as these can vary from that specified.

We bought tickets for the 1st class Kandy-Nuwara Eliya train. These tickets must be purchased in advance, and then the e-ticket must be changed to regular tickets at the station, or order delivery to the hotel. 12 Asia worked perfectly, bought and brought tickets to the hotel. When we arrived in Kandy, an envelope with tickets was waiting for us. Also, before the trip, we had some questions, they helped us to understand everything. Thank you for this service.

We have used 12go.asia on a number of occasions during this current trip through Asia and, until now, have been entirely satisfied with the service and booking process. However, it didn’t go so well for this trip.
We made this booking on 1st April for a train journey which wasn’t taking place until 1st December. Whilst the receipt stated that they couldn’t guarantee getting exactly the trip and class that we requested, we figured that, given the amount of notice, 12go.asia would be on it on the day the tickets were released to ensure we got the ones we requested. We received communications on 7th November telling us that we hadn’t got the times we requested for either our outward or return journeys. We wanted an early outward journey and a late return and got the exact opposite, effectively losing two days of our stay in Galle.
We were even more disappointed when we learnt from other travellers that they had purchased tickets for the trains we wanted from the railway station and first class were still available!
There was also a lot of confusion as I was sent itineraries with different times and ending up getting very frustrated as I tried to work our exactly what trains we were actually on.
The journey itself went very smoothly, the train was late departing Colombo and arriving into Galle but, as we were already 7 hours later than we wanted to be, this became irrelevant. The First Class carriage is very comfortable and the journey along the coast is very pretty.

The train journey itself is stunning - we went Ella to Kandy. I have taken trains in Africa; China; India; Russia; Thailand; UK; and Europe - this is maybe the best.
However the 12Go Asia website is misleading - we booked for the 9.30 departure with the website saying there were 6 seats left. One month later (long after our money debited) we were told that train had sold out & we couldn't travel on it...

Excellent service! We travelled as a family of four (children ages 9 and 10) between Ella and Kandy in April 2019.
Our tickets were ordered and pdf emailed through a month before our journey. We exchanged the pdf for our tickets in Colombo. Great seat reservations, brilliant train journey.
This is the second time we've used 12goAsia (last time in Thailand) and both times great service.

Despite booking tickets 60 days before departure I still missed out on my preferred seats when they were released 30 days before travel dates. However, by paying some more I was able to get 1st class tickets, and by paying another US$10 they were delivered to my hotel. The correspondence was ok, but I had issues not receiving some emails so it was a bit nerve wracking at times. In the end it all worked out, we were pleased with our seats.

Partially really nice views! Plenty of place on the 2nd class. Train was on time. We were sitting backwards which made me travel sick a bit and we only had a partial window on our spot. Not too many touts or vendors a plus! There was a violental incident in the train and it had to stop along the way and the violent person had to leave the train.

12goasia service was good, although a little expensive, but we knew that beforehand. If you want te be sure of a reserved seat, before going to Sri Lanka, it is the best option. Instruction were clear about where and how to collect the tickets.

Our tickets were changed from 1st class to Viceroy II which was a fabulous train journey in wonderful and comfortable vintage coach. But it stopped short of Kandy and left an hour later than on ticket. More info in advance from 123go would be useful but Viceroy train excellent

We got on a train, looked at the onboard electronic display to check that we were on the right train. However, as the train left the station, we realised it was going in the wrong direction and the onboard electronic display was showing the wrong information. The conductor had not come to check on us before the train departure either. Fortunately, there was a train going in the opposite direction at the next station, and we got on board with the conductor's help. We arrived at our destination 3 hours behind schedule.

Very expensive way to guarantee a seat. We booked Kandy to Ella train journey on 13th April 2022 (reserving just over 1 month before), reserving for $39.34USD, for two tickets for 2nd class seated. We ticked that if these were not available that we would take an upgrade. We were emailed 1-2days later to say that there were no 2nd class tickets and asked if we would pay the extra of $5.5USD/person, which we accepted and paid
We subsequently came to Sri Lanka and was told by our taxi driver (who is from Kandy), that we grossly overpaid and this was a complete ripoff. He explained that the tickets are only a fraction of the cost and that we should make a complaint about the website. When we checked the tickets on the train, we found that they only cost 2400Sri Lankan rupees which at the time of ordering (mid-March 2022), equalled 8.88USD. This seems to be a hussle that relies on foreigners paying over and above the cost of the ticket for fear of tickets not being available. This was one of the more expensive international websites to use so I would at least encourage people to shop around for cheaper prices
The train journey itself was great. Slightly delayed by 20mins but otherwise well timed, regular snacks and great views. It was busy on most carriages however there were a few free seats (maybe 90% full, this was on Sri Lankan New Year’s Eve as well which I believe is normally a very busy time). I cannot comment on how full 2nd class seated was (I am presuming it was full as per 12Go’s email to us). Our driver did insist that tickets are always available on the day (although I think this is only for non-seated tickets), so it leaves me wondering if I would bother booking again in advance (with a large price markup of over 600%) to guarantee tickets or just take a chance getting tickets on the day…I would certainly at least shop around for other websites anyway

We bought 2nd class seat tickets from 12go. Everything went well, we got our tickets sent to our hotel. Great service! It is very needed cause you can not buy an eticket online, thus unless you have time to buy a ticket before your trip or you have a friend in Sri Lanka, this is the best way to do it. It is expensive though.
