From Koh Phangan to Koh Tao

Barato & Bueno no será Rápido. (p.ej. trenes VIP en Tailandia)
Rápido & Bueno no será Barato.

All combined tickets take you from A to B, as it says. No comfy bus, no extra little commodities at all but the travel itself. Bring snacks and drinks with you. The bus stops at a local "food" place very over priced and offering cold cooked in advance food. Nothing to think about if you bring your own stuff, good for smokers and for some stretching. (Stops lasts about 40 minutes). Once at pier there is a very basic place to use the toilet (clean enough) and very basic snacks, including hot coffee for 20 baths. Bring some extra entertainment or plan the best way to spend a 3h waiting before taking the boat to The island (around 7am). You will be on the island at around 10am, plenty of time for getting a first feeling on the first day.

I bought the night bus from Bangkok to Koh Tao.when you buy the ticket it says that you leave at 19:30h from Bangkok and arrive at 09h to Ko Tao, but nowhere it says that you arrive at 04:15h to Chumphon, you need to wait there until 6h when there is a bus that bring you to the boat, and then 2hours by ferry to Ko Tao.That is a important information, specially if you travel with small children. I bought the tickets for 2 adults + 2 small children. When you buy the tickets it says that you pay the adult price for everyone and after they will rembourse you the children price. We pay 4 adults and we did not receive any reimboursment.

Let’s start with the positive things. The train left and arrived in Time and the aircon was working. The cabin was constructed in 1995 and is way beyond any good condition, therefore several vents for controlling the airflow were broken, several normally automated doors had to be opened manually, 2 of 3 toilets were broken and there was only 1 sink for about 30 people. The lower bed is about 1,90 Meter which had caused some problems for the larger guys in our group. To sum it up, if you can afford a flight to Koh Samui take this route.

Everything was exactly as stated, office was easy to find, tickets were as ordered and the trip was exceptional. Bunks were even long enough for the 6+ foot people to sleep. Will definitely do this again.

Was a good journey, didn't manage to sleep well but only due to bumpiness and noise of the train itself. They offered dinner and drinks at night and coffee in the morning. Toilets weren't actually that bad.

Bus journey wasn’t too bad, not a lot of leg room and only stopped once on the 7 hour trip but was ok. Boat trip was fine. Whole trip was very organised and fairly reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.

Got us there as advertised and on time boat was great and fast. The one issue we had were the busses were really outdated and washrooms were horrible which is a problem when u go 7hrs without a stop

I'm become realy sick of this airco. It was also so cold. Berth was hard but fine. Toilets where horrible :( for me it was chaos also what to do with the tickets and the street in front of the train station is so busy. I was late because they send me 3 times the wrong way.

Just make sure you bring your jacket cuz they full on blast the AC which is better than the heat so I appreciate it. Also, plan your trip flexibly cuz the time wasn’t exactly as it said which they already notify you when you book the tix. All in all, it was a nice night bus experience.

Comfy bed, clean sheets, toilets ok. It was an old train, compared with the newer trains I got on from Chiang Mai, it's a bit of a downgrade but still a very, very good way to travel and have a good sleep.

There came a man in the train who selled meals and beer. Two beers for 280 baht... be aware of that. We ordered breakfast and coffee and were charged 320 baht per person. No Thai prices. The cabines (VIP) were soooo dirty. We saw at least 10 cockroaches in each cabine (we booked three cabines, 6 persons). It looks like they never clean the cabines. Everything was sticky, hear on the floors and under your feet... the toilets were dirty.. The good things; tickets were “cheap”, the train was on time, the people who worked there were kind (smile, take your suitcases, making your bed etc).

Despite being good value for money, this trip wasn't very good, I would have happily paid a lot more for a sleeper berth and a train that didn't get us to Chumphon an hour late! We missed our ferry to Koh Tao and had to go via Surat Thani, arriving at our destination about 10 hours after we were supposed to. We didn't get any sleep on the train as there wasn't any space to stretch out, and the Aircon was blasting all night. If you can book ahead of time and get a sleeper berth, I would say it is worth it! And make sure you allow for train lateness, it seems like it is a regular occurrence! Booking through 12Go have been great though, they were very helpful and contacted me with information whenever there was some.
