Barato & Bueno no será Rápido. (p.ej. trenes VIP en Tailandia)
Rápido & Bueno no será Barato.

Fantastic journey start to finish. Booked online with 12Go Asia and followed their well detailed (and at times funny) instructions, T&Cs. The staff in the office opposite the station in the 12Go building were very helpful and the staff in the station itself were equally helpful. There are lots of facilities in the station including shops, toilets, coffee, food and more. We travelled in the 1st class sleeper cabin (x2) with our children which were worth every penny. The cabins were incredibly clean and spacious. Our cabins had an inter-connecting door also so we could open up into one big room. The cabins contain a sink each, bunk beds, a TV and a USB port per bunk to charge phones etc. 1st class also had its own shower, 2 toilet cubicles and 1 urinal for use across the 12-14 cabins. The food offered on board (pay by cash in the morning) was very tasty and great value although we did bring some of our own food on board also.

Great trip. I travelled with family and they all enjoyed themselves. I'd read the reviews so we took lots of warm clothes and certainly needed them to sleep with the super cold air con. Dinner and breakfast served in the cabin for an extra 400bht and cabin crew to make your beds. even given a towel and had a hot shower. well worth the extra for first class..

Bus was on time, comfortable; there was plenty of leg room, reclining seats with a blanket and head cushion provided, air con and a toilet. Water and some snacks were provided including a voucher for a meal at a stop halfway. My only negative was that the reading lights were not working. Great service for the price.

Clean linen, plenty to eat from vendors. I ordered mixed vegetables and rice from the menu and loved it. Fresh and tasty. Air conditioning worked well. The seats were comfortable. Sleep children on bottom bunk as the top is too easy for little people to fall from. The windows could be cleaner to get those good photos of the beautiful scenery. Overall an excellent trip and great value for money.

You would have probably read a lot of reviews about the trains that said "bring extra layers it's cold at night"... Well as soon as you walk on the train you start shivering and rummaging round tour bags for jumpers and socks. Everyone that walked on said "Woah I know they said it was cold but" ... The temperature inside is 21 degrees. the seats on the train are big and comfy you could almost fit 2 people on each seat (you wouldn't but you could as there is enough room) we bought food on the train, we ordered from the set menu and it was 210baht each. You get 2 x different main courses, 1 soup, 1 rice, some fruit and a banana cake for that price. The food is ok and filling and warms you up! Although they did say nothing was spicy and the Duck Red curry was incredibly spicy... You could buy breakfast on the train too at (I think) 170 baht each but we didn't buy it. The guard comes round about 8pm to do the beds,he's so quick and very efficient. Beds are comfy, the top and bottom bunk "sleeping matts" are the same width but the bottom bunk does have some extra space towards the wall. The top bunk is a lot colder as the A/C is closer and is also a lot brighter as you're closer to the lights. the toilets are cleaned regularly throughout the journey and they come through and clean and mop the floors in the carriages as well which is nice. the train itself is silent, the only noise is from the wheels on the tracks. The lights in the carriages aren't dimmed at any stage throughout the night. the guard comes and Wales you up at 6am so he can turn the beds down- they then bring breakfast round to those that ordered and ask you to check all luggage before leaving the train (I imagine this is in case of any theft throughout the night). i slept with my "hand lugggae" size backpack in the bed but left my big rucksake under the bottom bunk and it was safe all night. there is room under both seats to place suitcases of all sizes (if pushed under from the front if that makes sense, where your feet go effectively) and no one will get them out easily from the side- into the walkway- when the beds made as that area has a smaller gap under the seats.. This may not make sense but it will when you're on the train!:) all in all it was a great experience and I would do it again! :)

Everything about the trip seemed to would hav been nice, entertainment tablets with movies etc, snacks, more than enough leg room. However, about 1 hour in the bus broke down and we had to wait for a replacement bus for like 2 hours. The new bus wasn't as premium as the intended but could still sleep through the trip. I'm guessing we were just unlucky and as I said everything seemed very good. Also, the A/C makes it freezing so bring some warm clothes.

At first it all seemed to go well, the staff was friendly and directly after sitting down the kitchen staff gave us orange juice without asking or anything and presented a menu after. Although the prices were moderate Thai restaurant prices, the food Dinner meal was mediocre. But hey, you're in a night train, so don't get your hopes up too much right? At 9 o' clock the staff started to get grumpy and ordered us quite vaguely to get everything of the table, wiping some stuff off and they started making the beds leaving no room to sit and chat during normal the evening hours. I guess getting a good night's sleep depends on your own sleeping habbits. It would've been nice if the A/C wasn't blowing icey cold air through out the complete night making it hard not to wake up a popsicle, especially sleeping in the top bunk (take the lower ones, gives you more room also). When you don't sleep in that easy, I recommend getting some earplugs and a eye-cover, also bring a sweater because the provided blanket won't keep you warm unless you have fur ;-) Then the next morning the breakfast came. Skip the hot cocoa and go with tea or coffee, I can't even describe what that smurry substance in a cup actually was. As a matter of fact, you can leave out the entirety of the breakfast as I have literally see no single person in the wagon eat it. And then the best part, the part where you have to pay for the meals. We we're overcharged big time and then the waitress had the freaking nerve to ASK FOR A TIP and when I said I was not tipping her she frowned upon me (noting that tipping isn't even a standard in Thailand, and I was already paying european prices for shitty meals anyway). Anyway, got some hours of sleep in at the hotel finally and all I learned for future rides is this. 1. Take 1st class wagons 2. If you're ending up in a 2nd class wagon anyway, make sure to take the bottom bunk 3. Eat some dinner before boarding the train and take some snacks with you as the food is not worth it. 4. Have your breakfast at your hotel or even at the Chiang Mai train station instead of on board of the train for same reason as mentioned above.

Getting the tickets was hassle free, we picked up just before boarding the train witjout any problems. We were in the 1st class sleeper cabin, as a family of 5 (13, 5 & 3 yr olds) we had 2 cabins that opened a connecting door in the middle for a reasonably OK size space for us. We all enjoyed the journey and experience even managing a decent sleep.
