Cheap, Fast, Good - but you can usually pick only two of them!
Cheap & Fast won’t be Good. (e.g. buses from/to Khao San Road, local buses or 3rd class trains)
Cheap & Good won’t be Fast. (e.g. VIP trains in Thailand)
Fast & Good won’t be Cheap. (e.g. private limousine services, or VIP24 buses vs Express buses)

Make your choice! Please remember that while we are closely monitoring the services, we are still an agency marketplace. That means we focus on ticketing services and route availability & coverage rather than on the factual seat reclining angle you will get on the bus today.

It was possibly ge worst train trip I’ve ever taken, that’s a lot coming from me as I’m a tour leader on the Trans Mongolian Railway! It was ok at first although very hot in the cabin. The worst part was at night the air conditioner kept going on and off. When it was off it was like a sauna and when it was on it was like camping in antartica! I spent half the night sleeping with a jumper on and the other half in as little as possible. Sorry sleeping would imply I actually got some sleep. I would amend that to trying to sleep!

We book two beds from 4 person and when we step in the train, first of all, your pictures from the cabins was so wrong, they are size as a bathroom and super dirty, bugs growling in the train floor and cigarettesmoke and moldy smell everywhere. First of all, please kindly write if your transporting including free childrens in the adults beds, because our cabin was already occupied 2 adults and 2 almost grownups childrens, there was no way even get our bags in that space. Second, please dont make customers missunderstood the cabins from your pictures what is not even near what cabins really are. And please inform, if transportation is not non smoking, so example asthmatic person do not get healt issues for entering that kind of place and be stuck there 17hours. Next time I book it somewhere else, where what you get is what you book.
12Go response:

Dear Iris Poutanen,

Thank you for the rating and the review!

We understand your frustrations and concerns regarding this service. Please accept our sincere apologies for this less satisfying experience you had with the operator. You may rest assured knowing that we will pass these concerns and issues on to the management of the operator. We are hopeful that the matter will be investigated and improvements implemented.

All photos used are the official materials provided by the railway and these are what all agencies must use to advertise the services. Children under 6 can travel for free if they share a berth with the parents. We do note this in the information section for this trip but sadly we cannot enforce the age limit. All trains are supposed to be non-smoking but this is also something out of our control since we just sell the tickets and do not operate the train.

We are sorry for the inconveniences and hope that you will use our services again.

Enjoyable experience. The first class cabin was great when compared to my previous overnight train experiences. I have previously taken the "soft seat" overnight option on Vietnam Railways and it was very uncomfortable. By comparison, this was indeed first class! The cabin was clean. I was fortunate enough to share with other considerate passengers, all of whom were very quiet and respectful (unlike some neighbouring carriages). I'd like to add that this was my first experience booking with 12go and they were excellent. The site is easy to use, I needed to get a refund which was also super easy to do. When my seat was double booked due to a mistake by Vietnam Rail, they notified me and offered alternatives and were very responsive through the entire experience. I actually ended up with a more suitable travel option than the one I had original requested. Thank you 12Go!

didn't know that first class meant rock hard beds and 48 cockroaches in the cabin. Absolutely filthy and disgusting. Outraged that we paid for first class and we couldn't sleep cause we spend the whole night killing roaches. The cabin next door to us light didn't work also and none of the staff did anything about either of our problems. There's no hot water even though they specif there is. We brought on instant noodles but couldn't have them due to that lack of hot water. No toilet paper in the bathroom. Should have just paid more to take a flight.

Very shady. They all seemed out to get your money. They gave us a dinner menu, but when I tried to order the upy told me I had to go to car 1 to order (we were in car 11). When I got there I was told my only option was cup of noodles (while the staff sat around clearly eating the food from the menu, while counting out stacks of cash). I said fine, just beer then. They charged me 25k per beer. When I got back to my room, the menu clearly said 20k. This is when my girlfriend told me that while we were gone, the staff had come in and tried to get her to pay $25usd to keep our room empty (the other two bunks were empty). But the seats are assigned at the ticket office, right? The guy came back and repeated the same pitch, and I explained that isn't how it works. After him trying HARD to get the cash from my pocket into his a few more times, he finally left us alone. Sure enough, the bunks remained empty. They were going to be empty anyway, because the ticket office controls that, not him. He was just trying to extort money from us. (And since his cabin was right next to ours, and he was the one who directed me to car 1, you can be sure he intentionally tried to pitch my girl while I was making the long walk). The bunks themselves were fine, and the aircon worked well, but the staff is not to be trusted.

Caught the train from Da Nang to Hanoi. Booking online was all ok. We booked over night sleeper leaving at 12.50pm. Upon arrival we needed to collect our tickets but no English signs to show how. Asked around and found a great staff member who sorted this asap. We sat in a very hot crowded space ready to board but the staff locked the doors to the platform right up until the allotted time. This caused a crush effect for some. When the doors were opened we were pushed with the flow out into concourse ready to board. All boarded barring the carriage we were in as it needed to be added with another locomotive. This is fine as we New we would get delays but there is only limited space to stand in the cooking sun. Finally we boarded and took up our positions in the sleeper cabin. Neat reasonabling clean. Once we got going we were hit by the sales lady for snacks etc and she would not take no for an answer. We had pre purchased items prior to arriving. She left frustrated at us to return again ten minutes later. Again we said no so she staged a sit in on our bed and our two packs of peanuts on the table. I basically said get out and handed her the packets. She was not impressed. The trip continued with beautiful scenery along the coast and very enjoyable. A few stops in and dinner was offered for a small price which was ok but don't expect 5 star. It's more like prison style offering in plastic trays. I ate it all so all good. Around midnight and mid sleep our door was bashed on to open up to add two people onto the top bunks. No problem here until one lady tried taking our water bottles saying in broken English that's mine? We sorted this but the older local gentleman wanted a bottom bunk. My partner went to the toilet and he tried stealing her spot. I stayed calm and informed him that she was back shortly and then thankfully the woman in the other bunk stepped in telling him off. The overall journey was a good experience and we expected to have others in our cabin. If you are going on these trains they are all pretty old but ok. Just be prepared to have a few little interactions and you will be fine.

We booked a 1st class sleeper for my family (2 children and 2 adults), we were not impressed. The cabin was overrun with cockroaches that crawled out of the walls all night, no toilet paper in the toilet, the aircon was turned off at night and there was no food to buy other than packets of chips or over cooked mushy corn. For an 18hr journey that's very poor service. The best thing was looking at the view out of the window as we left Danang.

Our journey included the train ride from HCMC to Danang and a few days later the ride from Danang to Hanoi. We didn't expected much of comfort or luxury but a basic standard of hygiene. We endet up very disappointment. The cabins themselves are very small and barley enough space for the luggage of four people. The beds are okay with clean sheets and pillows. Unfortunately, we fought against cockroaches the entire trip and weren't able to sleep due the constant feeling of some Insects next to us. The toilets are even worse. For me as a female traveler, I was utterly discussed from every toilet in this train, that sad after traveling for 7 months around the globe. Yes, we arrived save and in time and the scenery was beautiful but I wouldn't suggest the train at all.

There was someone smoking on the carriage for most of the journey, which meant my cabin smelled like smoke for a lot of the journey. I would have thought smoking on trains was illegal in Vietnam. The carriages were swept and cleaning linen and food (pot noodle) and water provided. Best part of the trip from HCMC to Hanoi was the coastal route from Da Nang to Hue. The booking process itself with 12goasia. It was really easy and the staff were really helpful when changing our travel dates at law notice. The trip itself was less than great. We were in 2nd class sleeper on the very top bunk, where you couldn't sit up and was quite difficult to get up. It's a 6 bed room and at one stage had 12 people in the tiny room. The bedding wasn't very clean either. I would highly recommend getting first class or VIP if you can afford the extra.

I would not recommend booking in the 2nd class A\C section as it is seriously overcrowded. This is the first and probably the last time travelling on a train in Asia. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a wimp, I can take a little discomfort and chalk it up to experience. The biggest gripe is with Livitrans or 12GoAsia or maybe both. On arrival at the station we had our ticket checked by 2 different agents and we were still placed on the wrong train. Then, while on route, we received a call informing us of this information and we were told to get off in Hue. We waited there for an hour and a half for the correct train. Definitely not the best sleep or the best food, but again, it's an Asian train that we wanted to experience and that is what happened. Enjoyed some beautiful countryside and a couple beers with a group of Vietnamese men who didn't speak a lick of English. (That was my highlight)

Primary problem: not enough communication. The livitrans voucher that is emailed to you is not your ticket, even though it claims to be. Value of purchase is very confusing.. no idea whether your VIP livitrans ticket is for 2 berths or 4. At the station, booking number is not recognized. Plan to board the train and someone will find you with someone else's tickets that they claim are yours. No apparent difference between Livitrans VIP cars and regular VR cars -- except the color of blanket and regular cars are provided with fake flowers. Mid trip -- someone will bring you a banana and dry cup of noodles (I guess this is where the luxury expense went). Eventually, locals will be put into your car to occupy any spare room. Advice to potential customers: Book your own 1st class sleeper at the train station ... 12go.asia for VIP livitrans tickets is a waste of money.

This website was the most difficult of all the other bookings I made for our Vietnam trip at the end of last year. I had to ask the booking office to send me the tickets several times because they did not believe that I had not received the email confirming our booking. In the end, we received and all is well with the world. Comments on the Livitrains train trip - it was how people had described it, very shaky and not conducive to a good night's sleep. Lunch consisted of noodles in a cup. Good thing we brought along some snacks. Dinner was a compartmentalised plate with white rice, a tough piece of chicken and alien soup. (Alien soup?) those who have travelled on the train will know what I'm talking about. Toilets are western-style, but that's where it ends. Bring your own toilet paper!!! All in all, I gave it three stars and that's being generous, but it was something we wanted to experience and it's been crossed off the bucket list.

The Sleeper was OK, howerver my trip that was supposed to take 12 hours actually took 30.5 hours. I am not kidding. I boarded the train in Saigon at 9:00pm on a Monday and got off the train in Danang at 3:30am on Wednesday. On top of that, they offered train food that got me extremely sick. I never get sick and pride myself on that fact, but for some reason, the food they offered did not sit well at all. I ended up canceling my upcoming supposedly 15 hour trip from Danang to Hanoi and flying there via Vietjet for $24. The train did everything they could except get there on-time. I guess there was flooding, etc and it wasn't safe, but the 30.5 hours was just too much for me to handle. The price wasn't bad. If you have time and take your own food, then this could be a great way to see the countryside of Vietnam.

You do it for the experience, not because it's posh. The train departed on time, arrived 1/2 hour late, the rooms were comfortable and air conditioned with plenty of place for luggage. There was a somewhat-cooling AC and quite firm mattress pads with blankets and pillow. The toilets are unmaintained and you should bring your own TP. Everyone stands on the seats and then blows the whole mess around the washroom with the hose. Everyone smokes in the area between cars, so try getting a berth in the middle. We had to pay a bribe for some reason to keep the bed at the top berth, but it was only $10 USD. (Of course that was 1/3 of a total fare.) The meal was tasty and cheap, but there was only one tiny bit of chicken and a whole bunch of back vertebrae that, with the small shrimp, proved inedible. Bring your own food and order the beer. A can of beer is about 90 cents! I loved the coffee cart...that guy had my number and gave me a little spike of Vietnamese coffee in with my 3-n-1 Nespresso mix. Getting off the train is dangerous. It depends on a rickety metal plate they put between the car and the platform. I heard expletives, turned around, and my husband had fallen through as it wasn't secured. One thing I can say is that I have stories for a lifetime.

AC was quite cool; food carts were regular, but unannounced and quite fast (so you may have to chase them a car length or two); bed was very comfortable (I like hard mattresses); and I found the steady rocking very soothing. A classic way to experience the scenery along the coastline. Rugged, rustic environment added to the communist-era throwback. Food was sub-par and overpriced for what you got. 70,000 for two small cups of stale rice with a couple slices of oily tofu and two cold, greasy sausages.
