Arrival: Tuesday, September 24, 2019 08:40 to Chiang Mai

Duration: 13h 5m

Facilities and services: Aircon, Steward, WC

Confirmation: Operator uses manual confirmation. Ticket confirmation may take up to 24 hours.

Cancellation: Cancelation possible (check rules)

Dear Railways Passenger!
We are not (yet) an online system for Thai Railways. We are manually buying tickets for you at the station. Trains in Thailand are usually sold out (especially VIP class compartments). It may happen that your preferred berth (upper or lower) is not available. In this case we can try to get a different berth for you. You may select your flexibility level below.

You can not travel with the voucher you got from us. You need to come and check in to collect your boarding passes. The process is very similar to the one you know from the airport. You can not board the train without a special boarding pass.

Why book with us?

  • Simple and seamless booking process.
  • Usually we confirm your tickets within 24h.
  • Ticket pickup at/near the departure station in Bangkok with an alternative shipping option to the parcel room at your departure station or by EMS to your home/hotel address.
  • It is possible to change the passport details after making the purchase.
  • Multiple refund/change/shipping options nobody else can provide for you. Changing a boarding pass costs 160 Baht extra (fee per person).

Our booking fee is there to cover costs for providing tickets to our customers. This involves our staff going to the railways counter, wait in the queue and arrange the best tickets for you, depending on availability and according to your requirements and much much more. The purchasing process of train tickets is different to our bus tickets, which are instantly confirmed - bus operator systems are connected in real-time. Trains are not like that. In case we have charged a higher price at the moment of booking (for child fares, changing VIP to 2nd Class, upper/lower, etc.) we refund in cash when you pick up tickets.

Please note: Thai railways release seats to the public 90 days before the departure for long-hauls and 30 days for short routes (e.g. Bangkok <-> Chumphon). If your departure is in more than 90 (30) days your payment and request will be held in the system and we issue tickets at first possibility ensuring you get the seats you want.

Attention: Please enter your real gender when booking. If you have mentioned you are female and book 1st Class/VIP, we'll put you with another female passenger. If in reality you are not exactly female - you may face well expected difficulties when boarding...

Travel with children: Please note that the policy of Thai Railways permits children less than 12 years old or of height under 150cm to travel on LOWER BERTHS ONLY.

Cancelation policy: Bangkok - Chiang Mai #13

The following refund options are available:

  1. Refund 80% (excl. fees)

If you would like to cancel your booking before the ticket is confirmed.

Amount to be refunded: USD 39.13

  2. Refund 50% (excl. fees)

If you would like to cancel your booking after the ticket is confirmed.

Press refund button before 2019-09-20 19:35 PM Bangkok time (2 days left).

Amount to be refunded: USD 24.45

  3. Refund 15% (excl. fees)

If you would like to cancel your booking after the ticket is confirmed.

Press refund button between 2019-09-20 19:35 PM and 2019-09-22 19:35 PM Bangkok time (4 days left).

Amount to be refunded: USD 7.34

I had a pleasant nighttime ride. If I ride again I would ride during the day. Maybe it would be more interesting for a first timer to Thailand. The food was okay. I would have liked to see the lighting work properly, the individual lights did not work or dim so I could tell the train car needs maintenance on the inside. Thank you for a pleasant ride.

Once we found the ticket office staff were very efficient and kind, however collecting tickets with a disabled husband in tow proved challenging. Luckily our taxi driver found a parking place where my husband could wait while I picked up tickets. Crossing such a busy highway from the train station would have proved impossible, with bags and disabled devices. Our porter at the station went above and beyond helping us aboard. Staff on board also very helpful. Beds and toilets horrid. Cleaning has a lot to be desired. Bring your wet wipes. (But you don’t get an adventure sitting on the couch!) we’re doing it all again in a couple of days Chiang Mai - Bangkok.

Ordering tickets through 12GoAsia (a half year before the actual trip) and picking up tickets in Bangkok was very well organized. Highly professional team and I recommend them totally!! The trip itself: Old train, reasonably comfortable. We chose to buy the extra 4th upperbed for the three of us to have more privacy in our sleeper compartment. But the toilet... yuck! Nothing has changed in those 45 years since I first travelled by train between Bangkok and Chiang Mai!

The trip was nice but you think you get free drinks but on the end you must pay a lot. They should say it before they hand it over to you. They give you the thought that it's included as a service in the first class. We felt us scammed.

The food lady kept trying to sell us juice etc and when we bought the breakfast and it arrived it was horrible. The fried were like a million years old, oily, super soggy and the rest of the food was so sketchy that we did not even risked ourselves to try it. Even though we asked for refund she forced us to pay and will not leave us alone until we did even if we only tried one fry. The train was ok and the booking staff were amazing outside of that.

The 12Go staff were great. We picked up our tickets about an hour before with no hassles. However our train was delayed 1.5 hours which is expected in Thailand. The ride was good on the first class #13 train and was comfortable, not overly big and the air con was quite cold but comfortable enough to travel on the night.

We had bought train tickets for the night train at 7:30. However, we arrived early at the train station and were easily able to change the tickets to the earlier train of 6:15. This train was very clean and nice, but quite cold. The mattress is very thin and firm. The train arrived on time.

We booked this train as new train #9 was fully booked. Train #13 is really old now so first class has seen better days. Food was below par for Thailand but possibly ok for train food (similar to Trans-Siberian railway 15 years ago). Having said that air con worked, adjoining compartments for kids, beds was comfortable and sheets, pillowcases, blankets all spotlessly clean. Service very helpful. Mix of old style Asian and western toilet due to age of train. One star off really for food as we knew that the train would be old when booked. Would recommend if train #9 not available. Old train was cheaper as well if that if cost is a factor. Everything with 12go.asia worked as planned. Office across from station (Hua Lamphong) was open until 8pm to pick up tickets and received refund due after train #9 booking ended up being fully booked. Would use again. Recommended from ManatSeat61 website.

We took train #13 and paid for first class sleeper cabin. The beds themselves were pretty comfortable and we got decent sleep, although the cabins were very cold, even without air conditioning. Plan for that! Our experience wasn’t the best, though, due to the fact that we interacted with some very rude staff, some of whom would not even knock before opening our door (oh yeah, our door didn’t lock), which we thought was very inappropriate. Additionally, we were right at the end of the car, which meant any time someone used the bathroom, we heard everything and also were disturbed by the doors opening and closing, every single time. Lastly, we drove through some pouring rain, which meant that the ceiling leaked. That was pretty unpleasurable. Overall the train served its purpose and was a better alternative to us than flying or busing, but there could be improvements made. Just make sure you bring an extra blanket or warm clothes and some earplugs, and request a cabin in the middle of the car, if you can.

The 5 stars is for the Train ride itself, not for 12Go! The Train ride was great, so smooth and quiet I had to look out the window at times to make sure we were still moving! Comfortable room, I didn't think it was too cold although many other say it is. 0 stars for 12Go as I specifically ordered (and believe I payed extra for!) a PRIVATE 1st CLASS ROOM (solo occupancy), but when I got to the office to pick up my tickets they had just booked me a single bed so I had to share the room. I booked the tickets app. 6 months in advance!! No big deal, the guy was ok and we chatted and whatever, however, in all the correspondence between myself and 12Go it is clearly stated that I was requesting a solo occupancy 1st Class room and they stuffed it up!! NOT HAPPY WITH 12GO!! The train ride though, as mentioned, was amazingly awesome!!

Such a good value for money way to travel-a much better experience than flying. My partner & I had a 1st class private cabin, & enjoyed both the evening & breakfast meals with friendly service from the staff-who even helped us off the train with our heavy bags. The cabins are cold so bring something warm to wear to sleep in-but much better than having no air con & being too hot. Overall a very good experience and would recommend it for anyone traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

Booking our trip was easy. However the instruction telling us to go to the DOB was rough. The instructions are for the front main entrance. However taxis drop you off at the side entrance. And no one in the train station seemed to know what we were talking about when we asked where the DOB building was. Perhaps an addition to the instructions would be helpful. Otherwise, it was a great service!

1.Semi rude stuff without basic English 2.Dirty toilets 3.Overpriced and burnt coffee 4.Delayed 5.Filty matteras, albeit clean bed sheets Ps guys, it is more than evident then 12go.asia is operating as the middleman skimming additional profit from customers. If you do care about customer experiance, let the National Trains sell tickets directly.Otherwise you make a bad impression of the country.

Sleeper cabin was clean and the bunk bed comfortable. Toilet was kept clean. The not so good part was that the train was noisy as we had a compartment above the axle. So sleep was not coming easily as we felt the noise from it. Food service was great but was to expensive. And I prefer to sit in a chair at the table and not sitting on the bottom bunk close to the floor...so not confortable and not big enough table for two people eat at the same time...

12go made the booking really easy, ticket pickup from opposite the station was sorted in less than 5 mins and got free water, we went the day before the trip to make sure we had no issues. Waitress is friendly but a bit pushy with trying to sell food and drink, warning... orange juice you get given at the Hua Lampang is not free but they don’t tell you that. We took our own snacks as read the food was bad. Bathroom was a bit smelly and the train is showing it’s age, the back of the chair in 1st class becomes the top bunk and the armrest sticks into your back when trying to sleep. Bottom bunk was quite comfy though and the guy making the beds was quick and friendly. Highlight was waking up to the northern Thailand countryside.

Also...

We wanted to see the country as we traveled, and this was a great Idea, the train station may not be the top notch, but it works. BUT the sleeper cabin is the way to go, It was perfect for the wife, myself and my 18 month son. We had dinner and breakfast, they fixed and took down the beds and were so friendly. This was a great idea and I recommend everyone to try it, but do the overnight, the day shift doesn't not have sleeper cabin. Love this way of transportation.
