At 12Go our operators offer three types of service:

Cheap, Fast, Good - but you can usually pick only two of them!
Cheap & Fast won’t be Good. (e.g. buses from/to Khao San Road, local buses or 3rd class trains)
Cheap & Good won’t be Fast. (e.g. VIP trains in Thailand)
Fast & Good won’t be Cheap. (e.g. private limousine services, or VIP24 buses vs Express buses)

Make your choice! Please remember that while we are closely monitoring the services, we are still an agency marketplace. That means we focus on ticketing services and route availability & coverage rather than on the factual seat reclining angle you will get on the bus today.

We reserved the whole 4-berth compartment with 2 people. Trip was very interesting. You can see the every day life of the local people in urban areas. I would go for a bus if you care about comfortability, because the train does not have air conditioning and you will be covered by sand that consistently blows in from the window.

What an experience, i was the only western person on the bus much to everyone else’s amusement, people kept staring at me the whole journey watching what I was eating, sleeping etc, made me feel slightly uncomfortable. They driver didn’t speak English and when we stopped wanted me to get off the bus with no explanation just shouted ‘OFF’ at me, strange experience won’t be doing it again any time soon. The bus itself was ok, clean, water and blanket but it was noisy, the TV was playing most of the journey which was loud too

The bus was clean and the seats were reasonably comfortable. However it was really difficult to sleep because of how bumpy the road was. Also because the bus has no toilet the toilet stops woke me up every time I went to sleep. About three stops through the night. The AC was freezing! If possible I would find an alternative mode of transport that allowed for more sleep and comfortable ride if travelling through the night

A unique experience & must do, take plenty of warm clothes and/or a blanket though coz it gets very cold over night & don’t expectalot of sleep as it’s very noisy & bumpy. Another tip, beware of the guys at Yango Stn in fluro tops wanting to take your bags, as it can prove very costly!

The train ride from Yangon to Bagan would definitely be one of the highlights of our trip! The view along the way was just insanely amazing: we got to see the messier suburbs of Yangon and all the rural landscapes along the plains. It truly is a glimpse of what life is in Myanmar outside the “touristy destinations”. The train was quite bumpy and uncomfortable (especially after midnight) but we still got a decent 6 hours of sleep. A friendly guy came and collected our meal orders at the start of the ride, and by dinner/breakfast the food was delivered right to the window. This is definitely a magical experience, and although it might not be for everyone, I think it is one of the most memorable train rides I have ever taken.

As a family of 4, with our own compartment and western style toilet (!) we had a great journey. We locked both doors and were uninterrupted for the entire trip. We had plenty of water and snacks as there is not much chance to get food/drinks en route - once in your compartment, there is no possible way to the rest of the train. We took blankets bought from the market in Yangon and were glad we did. Chugging through the countryside was a wonderful bird's eye view of rural life in Myanmar: pigs, poultry, oxen and ploughs, happy locals waving to the train. Lovely fun. Not much suspension and quite a rollicking journey but THE best way to travel. We picked up the 12 AsiaGo tickets at the named address in Yangon where they were very helpful.

The trip is worth the price. A very unique experience. The biggest part of the trip was the view, which was, to say the least, insanely good. We got a close up view of the simple life of many Burmese people living in the rural regions, especially farmers who were caring for their crops. We also saw many animals and children who waved to us. The scenery was also impressive and varied, changing as we crossed different regions. We also got very nice photos. Moving on to the logistical front (read on for the important details), best to arrive early at the train station. We arrived at 3 pm just in case, but the train arrived at about 3.30 pm and left sharply at 4 pm. The train does sway from side to side occasionally, and it can get bumpy sometimes. However it is pretty manageable (just need to be careful when you stand up) and we did have nice naps. There is a restaurant car (but not sure if every train comes with it, our train is #61) and a friendly young man came to collect our orders for dinner before the train departed yangon central station. The food comes at 7 pm when the train stops for 2 minutes. The train is an express train and only stops to pick up/drop off passengers at certain points during the trip. However it does stop about every 45 minutes, presumably waiting for signals to make sure the track ahead is clear. Each time the stops are only about a minute or two so there is very little time to get off to take photos. During the day we kept all the windows open and the breeze was cooling. However when night came it became colder and colder (we went in early December which is the colder season - however do note that during the way the sun shines hot and it will be hot). However we made the mistake of not bringing a blanket and not wearing multiple layers which was a terrible mistake as it got extremely cold at midnight and those who were more cold-sensitive amongst us could not sleep well, so we had to wake up and wear long pants and jackets, and not just that, but also close all the windows, and turn off the fan. Only then could we sleep. However we did in the end get at least 6 hours of sleep as the train ride is long and at night there is not much to do. As for entertainment, we tried watching a movie on a laptop but the train's noise was too loud for us to hear the lines, even with a Bluetooth speaker. However we could play music on the speaker fine at a higher volume. There is also a lot of space so you can walk around a bit if you feel claustrophobic. Overall it is a worthy experience that is worth the price and slight inconvenience. Lastly, there were 5 of us and each cabin only holds 4. We assumed that the cabins are connected. They are not. Meaning our 5th member has to be on the other cabin all the time or with us all the time. However, we decided to squeeze all five of us in and it did work out ok, just that one of us had to sleep on the floor, but that was entirely out of preference as it is possible to squeeze 2 in a bed as the bed is quite spacious.

This was the best bus I've been on so far. It was sooo comfortable. Each seat had a tv screen wirh movies, music and games. You could recline the seat way back so you could sleep comfortably. They provide snacks and water onboard, as well as a blanket which you'll need because it gets pretty cold inside the bus. I enjoyed the bus so much I'm looking forward to the ride back to Yangon!

The station staffs at Yangon was helpful, they waited for me when my grab driver called to inform I was running late for 5 mins. The journey was pleasant, the seat was a little uncomfortable at leg room area. It comes with warm blanket. I chose to shut down the cool aircon blower but I still feel its cold inside the bus cabin. The driver made few quick stop when he needs a stretch, which I don't mind as I rather not having the driver risk driving when tired. We made 2-3 toilet stop & still able to arrive Bagan station within the 10hours. The taxi drivers at Bagan station are very persistent. One way to Nyaung U cost 10k, one way to Old Bagan cost 12k while one way to New Bagan cost 15k.

The Bus was great and almost like a plan with onboard movies and huge seats. AC was okay and we stopped once for 30 min where we’ve been asked to wait at the food court of that weigh station. The bus was locked for this time and the cold air stayed inside and the mosquitos outside - a big plus! The bus drive itself was quiet and the next annoying thing were the taxi drivers at the Bagan bus station. We got a taxi for 12.000 mmk to New Bagan and the Hotel Provider a free shuttle back to the bus station when we left for Inle Lake. So don’t get ripped of by those taxi guys! Better get an e-bike for 5.000 mmk a day ;-)

JJ Express is the best service available in Myanmar and put other western operators in the shade. The seats recline almost fully, a blanket, a screen with movies, a box of pastries and a bottle of water, and there are rest stops. The air conditioning is as cold as they say, but very little reason to complain.
