Contractors in northern Laos say work on boring tunnels for a new railway line from China is progressing in leaps and bounds. In Luang Namtha Province, spokesperson Chanthachone Keolakhone says three tunnels on the route are up to 50 metres through mountains.

The Laos Tourism Ministry has announced the construction of a heritage centre at the historic Vat Phou Temple complex in southern Champasak Province. A director at the ministry’s heritage bureau told reporters the centre would function as a museum and visitor centre and would house important artefacts from the 900-year-old temple.

Authorities in the Thai city of Khon Kaen have announced they will build a museum to house collections of religious artefacts unearthed recently. Local residents dug up the pieces at Chom Sri Temple.
