Thai marine officials say they will increase inspections of shipping in the Gulf of Thailand to ensure they are seaworthy and not leaking oil. The crackdown comes in the wake of a spill which left beaches all the way down the gulf coast from Samut Sakhon to Hua Hin covered in oil.

The oil slick and garbage that washed up on Hua Hin beach last week has been cleaned off. Environmental officers in the Gulf of Thailand seaside resort inspected the beach on Friday and said there was no more oil on it.
