From Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok and further afield

Cheers! Here you are in Thailand – safe and sound after a long trip – and your next step is to get from Suvarnabhumi to the place to lay your head in Bangkok, is it not? Suvarnabhumi has great transport connections with the central areas of the capital, and you have a wide choice of options which differ in price, level of comfort and time to your destination.

Public transport from Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok

If you are looking for a budget way to get from Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok, head to Bangkok Airport public transportation centre. There are shuttle buses between the airport and the transportation centre: look for lines A, B (both at the first floor of the passenger terminal near Gates 1 and 10), C, D and Express Line (these ones stop at the departure and arrival halls at Gate 5). Shuttle buses run from 6am till 12.25am every 5–15 minutes except for line B, which runs twice an hour.

Frequent BMTA buses run between the public transportation centre of Suvarnabhumi Airport and different destinations around Bangkok. These are N550, 553, 554, 555 and 558. These buses are quite slow but cheap. Remember that in overwhelming majority of cases you will need to connect to other buses or BTS to get to your destination.

Between 5am and 10pm there are also public vans which you can board at gates 1 and 8 of the passenger hall. These go to Victory Monument, On Nut, Rangsit, Samut Prakan, etc.

There is an airport rail link to Phaya Thai (30 minutes with Suvarnabhumi Airport City line and 17 minutes with Airport Express) and Makkasan (15 minutes).

The most comfortable way to get from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok is by taxi: no need to figure out you route and change buses. Taxis in Bangkok are quite affordable and you will inevitably see passengers queuing to get a cab.

Private transfer from Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok

A good alternative to a taxi, especially if you are travelling in a group of 3+ and have bulky luggage, is a private transfer. 12go.asia offers 9-seats PGS Toyota Commuter vans ready for departure any time on your request. The cost of the trip is THB990 for the whole vehicle which is a great value for the comfort you get. Note that if you are planning to hire a taxi to get from Suvarnabhumi to Bangkok and there are more than three of you plus luggage, you will need at least two cabs and will definitely spend more time trying to coordinate your route. Even for the most experienced travellers we recommend considering a private transfer to Bangkok to ensure a smooth beginning of your stay in Thailand.

PGS company also offers 3-seats Toyota Camry at a tad lower price of THB880. The price is final and is inclusive of all the taxes and fees (e.g. tolls). Though this option will probably cost you more than a public taxi, it still takes off a great deal of your headache after a long journey.

Not planning to make a stopover in Bangkok?

If you are not planning to make a stopover in Bangkok and are heading directly to your next destination, note that several companies provide direct service from Suvarnabhumi Airport to major resort cities throughout the country, including Hua Hin, Pattaya or Koh Chang. There are ticket stands right on the spot but note that tickets sell out quickly, especially during the busiest winter months and you risk missing the next bus – or even risk finding no available tickets for the whole day – without prior booking.

From Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang airport

PGS offers a comfortable private transfer service from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang airport. A 3-seats Toyota Camry will cost you THB990, and a 9-seat Toyota Commuter – THB1100. The rates are all inclusive, and the trip lasts about 1½ hours depending on traffic.

Tip: If the queues at the nearest to your gate passport control booth look too long, do not despair. There are three passport control areas on the international arrivals level Suvarnabhumi, so you can try your luck with the next one.

From Suvarnabhumi to Koh Chang, Hua Hin or Pattaya

Though booking your ticket to Koh Chang, Hua Hin or Pattaya from Suvarnabhumi in advance is a great way to save your time, if your flight is in delay you risk missing your bus. Is there a way out? Yes, there is. Buy your ticket online after you land!

Tip: Six International Airports of Thailand, including Suvarnabhumi, offer free Wi-Fi to their passengers. You can get 120 minutes of free WiFi with AirportTrueFreeWiFi. Just press Get Free WiFi button in your browser after connecting to the network and follow the instructions on your screen.
