Padang Bai to Gili Air Destination Reviews

We were three and a half hours late

Extremely unhappy with our experience with Wahana. We booked a round trip to Gili Air. The evening before departure, at 8:00 PM, the company informed us that the trip had been moved up by two and a half hours due to the afternoon weather forecast. Despite some difficulty, we managed to make it for the new departure time. The return trip was far worse. The boat was scheduled for 3:30 PM. At 6:30 AM, we received an email stating that the boat had been moved up to 10:30 AM (requiring us to be at the port by 9:30 AM)—a full five hours earlier! Naturally, we were asleep at 6:30 AM, so we didn't see the message and missed the boat. Our subsequent interactions with the company were of no help at all. They offered no solutions and were very slow to respond. We had to find a solution ourselves and scramble to book with another company—which, ironically, ended up running two hours late... During the return, the sea was very calm and we had no issues, so we don't understand the reason for the schedule changes. I’m giving two stars because the boat itself was comfortable. I do not recommend them.

- Spontaneously cancellation of our booking - Delayed departure of the alternative boat - Needed changing of the boat in Gili T to go to Gili Air because of low tide: Took more time than original booking --> Delayed arrival of 4 hours (whole holiday day was lost)

They arrived one hour late. The whole process is messy. You need to check one hour in advance. They make you wait at a bar nearby and they are supposed to tell you they are ready to board. But they do not. You have to check yourself, otherwise you stay out. You need to leave the luggage in the middle of the street, and you do not see it back until the end of the trip, hoping that it is there to pick up.

It was perfect but something you need to beware of are the port costs. We drove from Padang Bai Port to Gili Air (over Trawangan). Padang Bai is a very tight port, most streets are blocked. We had no "problems" getting through when the taxi driver told them we are going to Wahana. Thankfully Wahana has their own "Terminal" at the end of the street with spacious parking, unloading areas, checking counters and multiple staff. It also features a restaurant. And when boarding started they guided us through the streets to the actual port terminal. Your baggage is brought directly from the terminal to the ship, like in an airplane. Wahana made Padang Bai very pleasant for us. ATTENTION: At the checking counters they tell you, for Gili Air they want 45k port cost / person in cash. This is neither communicated by 12Go nor by Wahana beforehand. Our local Hotel Manager went with us, as he did not heard of Wahana before and told us he was very amazed by everything and would recommend them to his guests from here on. We drove on the Catanik 09 which was spaceous and comfortable and it has an outside deck. As well as beverages and a bit food too but I would rather bring my own snack - not because of the price but what they offered. (Tip: Go to the upper area if you don't get sea sick easily. The sea is rougher but the seats are first class - they did not sell different classes for our ride) Different to Trawangan, Gili Air has no port. So a boat will come and pick you up in the middle of the sea. The plenty of staff will move your luggage (and you) from boat to boat. So no worries, it was fun! But if you have walking disabilities I would avoid Gili Air. It was very pleasant in general. Thank you Wahana.
