You have quite a choice of options to reach Delhi from Haridwar. The most obvious and straightforward variants are to take a train or a bus. There are direct flights to Delhi, too, but they are more likely to rob you off more money but not to save you any time compared to the overland transportation.

With 15 daily and non-daily trains linking Haridwar to Delhi, you have a choice of 8-10 departures each day. There is a good choice of early morning and evening trains with rather a limited number of trains leaving around noon, but anyway they offer you enough flexibility.

The main railway station of Haridwar, Haridwar Junction railway station (HW) is located in the southern part of the city and within a walking distance from many popular hotels.

Which stations in Delhi do trains from Haridwar arrive to?

From Haridwar, you can reach New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS), Delhi Shahdara (DSA), Delhi Cantonment (DEE), Old Delhi (DLI), Hazrat Nizamuddin (HZM) and also Ghaziabad (GZB), in the northeastern reaches to Delhi.

Note though, that none of the trains call to each of the railway stations mentioned above. As a general rule, trains heading to NDLS usually make a stop at Ghaziabad, and trains to Hazrat Nizamuddin do not make any other stops in Delhi.

From four and a half hour to 12 hours. Five out of 8 daily trains make it to Delhi in 5–6 hours while there are also two slower trains which need 9 hours and one snail-fast Haridwar–Delhi passenger train which does it in 12 hours.

What are the recommended trains to Delhi?

The superfast Nanda Devi Express 12206 whisks you to Delhi in 4 and a half hours but it is scheduled somewhat inconveniently leaving Haridwar at around 1 am and arriving to NDLS at 5.20 am.

A better idea is to consider NDLR Janshatabdi Express, which is also an early morning train at 6.30 am arriving to NDLS at 11.15 am. It is also a super budget-friendly option with only sitting classes available – a comfy Chair class at about INR800-1,000 and super cheap second class non AC seats.

Trains leaving in the late afternoon reach Delhi by midnight what can be inconvenient if you have not booked your accommodation in advance.

The lowest limit for AC classes is INR600-800 (Chair class) through INR1,100 (third class) – INR1,500 (second class) – INR2,000 (first class); the three latter all offering berths.

Non air-conditioned classes are cheaper.

How to get from Haridwar to Delhi by bus

Buses for Delhi depart regularly throughout the day offering you a good choice of departure times. The route is served by both air-conditioned and non air-conditioned coaches. While it is normally not necessary to book non AC buses, remember that they are often cramped, travel slower, make a lot of en route stop and take onboard as many passengers as can stay inside – and Indians know well how to pack in!

For AC buses, book in advance to be on the safe side.

The main bus station in Haridwar is conveniently located right by the main railway station and is just a couple-of-minutes-walk away from most hotels.

Some private bus operators pick up passengers at different bus stand in the city so always check where from your bus departs.

Some operators declare four hours but in reality the majority of bus trips lasts from 5 to six hours with the most unfortunate ones stretching to eight hours.

Regular bus ticket prices lie within INR500-700 range. There are cheaper non AC variants as well as plusher sleepers.

Which bus operator to choose?

There are both state and private bus operator on this route. The official bus company of Uttar Pradesh state, State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), runs about 12 buses a day between Haridwar and Delhi.

City Land Travels, Shakti Travels, Mahalaxmi Travels, Delux Bus Service are some of the private operators offering services to Delhi.

It is generally not very important which operator to choose – the more important factors are where they drop you in Delhi (many head to Kashmir Gate) and whether they run AC or non AC buses.

How to get from Haridwar to Delhi by plane

Strange it may seem but there is a reasonable choice of direct daily flights to Delhi from Haridwar – or, to be more exact, from Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, a town 40 km north of Haridwar.

How long does it take to fly to Delhi?

The flight itself lasts between 45 and 60 minutes.

Getting from Haridwar centre to the airport takes at least 75 minutes, often more.

Taking into consideration that you need to arrive at least an hour prior to your flight, then wait for checked luggage in Delhi and get to the city from the airport, it is very likely that your flying trip will rob you off approximately five hours – not a much faster option compared to fast trains, is it not? But no bumpy roads, no train delays.
