How to get from El Nido to Puerto Princesa
There are not a lot of options to get from El Nido to Puerto Princesa but they are pretty much straightforward. The distance between El Nido and Puerto Princesa is approximately 230 kilometres via Puerto Princesa North Road. Vans cover it in about 6 hours while buses may need up to 9 hours. Either way, your trip will set you back roughly PHP500-PHP700.
Van from El Nido to Puerto Princesa
Taking a van would be the most convenient option as it can be booked in advance, arranged directly at your hotel, any tour agency in town or at the Corong-Corong terminal.
To get to the Corong-Corong terminal, take a tricycle for about PHP50. From the terminal vans for Puerto Princesa leave regularly between 5am and 8.30pm.
The most popular shuttle van companies are Eulen Joy, Fort Wally Shuttle Services, and Lexxus Shuttle. As of this writing, all of them charge between PHP500 and PHP700 and can bring you either to Puerto Princesa city or directly to the airport. Travel time is between 5 and 6 hours.
Bus from El Nido to Puerto Princesa
Two bus companies operate daily trips El Nido to Puerto Princesa from the same bus terminal. They are Cherry Bus or Roro Bus. Buses travel slower and take up to 9 hours if you are traveling during the day since the bus will be picking up passengers along the way. Night trips are usually shorter – between 7 and 8 hours.
Tickets cost about PHP400 for a non air-conditioned bus and PHP500 for an A/C bus. To secure your seat, do book bus tickets in advance, especially for the night trips. Otherwise get to the terminal early to catch the next bus.
Roro buses depart El Nido to Puerto Princesa daily every 2 hours from 4am to 10pm. Air-conditioned buses leave at 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, and 10pm while non-A/C buses depart Puerto Princesa at 4am, 8am, 12noon, 4pm, and 8pm.
You can catch a Cherry bus between 7am and 9pm. Their A/C buses leave at 9am, 1pm, and 9pm while non-A/C buses depart at 7am, 11pm, and 3pm.
A few tips for your trip. If you are tall and need more legroom, vans might be too cramped for you. Try to get either the front seats or the ones behind the driver.
Sit on the right side and you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the sea if you are traveling during the day.
There is an unpaved stretched of the road en route between El Nido and Puerto Princesa though it is not too long.
Both vans and buses make a short bathroom break during the trip where you will also be able to buy some snacks.
