At 12Go our operators offer three types of service:

Cheap, Fast, Good - but you can usually pick only two of them!
Cheap & Fast won’t be Good. (e.g. buses from/to Khao San Road, local buses or 3rd class trains)
Cheap & Good won’t be Fast. (e.g. VIP trains in Thailand)
Fast & Good won’t be Cheap. (e.g. private limousine services, or VIP24 buses vs Express buses)

Make your choice! Please remember that though we are closely monitoring services, we are still an agency marketplace - meaning we focus on ticketing service and route availability / coverage rather than on factual seat recline angle you got today ^_^

★★★☆☆ Jun 13, 2017 (avia Economy, Thai AirAsia) :
Almost all good. Nearly on-time departure. Plane was an Airbus, but okay and clean. Staff very nice. Being super budget airline they apparently don't rate a normal loading jet-way tube. So, portable stairs and a shuttle bus were used. No provision for people with walking/climbing difficulties -- and guess when we found out about that. Yep, at the gate. Later:; rcv'd sort of reply from 12go--- saying that most people would have tried contacting the airline direct prior to flight. Been there, tried that. rcv'd delightful canned e-mails which told us little or nothing.

This is our first trip with Thai train and first booking with 12go. We are booking for Hua Lamphong Bangkok Station to Butterworth Station on 18 Sept 2016. Overall we really satisfied with this sleeper train, it's nice, clean, comfortable and we also have a good sleep at night. They are several hawker sells interesting local foods at bigger station, so if you like to taste this food, make sure you still have Thai notes, especially smaller notes like 10,20,50 and 100 THB. The only problem was the train didn't arrived at final destination at Butterworth again, but its final destination only at Padang Besar (Malaysia) Station. So you must buy another ticket from Padang Besar to Butterworth Station for 11.4 MYR at KTM ticket counter Padang Besar Station ( go upstairs after the Malaysia custom check). Make sure you already have Malaysia bank notes before you board at Hua Lamphong Bangkok Station. The KTM train from Padang Besar to Butterworth don't have seat numbers but the trains runs faster and arrived in Butterworth less than two hours. Overall we really satisfied with our 12go booking and their follow up for our problem with this train route.
★★★★☆ Sep 8, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
we booked our ticket all the way to Butterworth in malaysia but when we arrived at the border the local train people insisted that we need to buy a new ticket for the trip from the border to Butterworth. as we had no local money and didn't want to use the higher exchange rates charged by the money exchangers we need to walk with our luggage into the town back some half kilometre to find a bank and make a atm withdrawl.
★★★☆☆ Aug 30, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Booking and ticket collection purchase (I.e. The parts 12goAsia have control over) went well. The sleeper is tired and a bit dirty but actually I slept pretty well, though please note they expect you to go to bed at 8pm! But as others have said, note that this train doesn't go to Butterworth any more. You have to change at the Malaysian border. If the Bangkok train is late (as it often is) they won't hold the connection - I was two hours late arriving in Butterworth!
★★★★☆ Aug 17, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Usual good sleeper and food fine, pity the track so poor untill the border at Malaysia where its all new.
★★★★☆ Aug 15, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Train was on time and we slept quite well. Can't ask for much more from a sleeping car! However, the KTM local train from Padang Besar onwards was a spartan end to the trip, lacking even a single toilet, which is not really acceptable for a journey of nearly 2 hours.
★★★★☆ Aug 13, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
There was a lack of communication which train station the Restaurant Car would be detached, hence we thought we would get left behind while having our breakfast at Hat Yai. Immigration clearance within the same building at Padang Besar so it was convenient clearing both immigration. After clearing immigration procedures at Padang Besar (Malaysia-Thai Border), we boarded a KTM Kommuter Train. Probably had to change trains because Thai Trains are not compatible with Malaysia railway system (Thai trains still uses Diesel cars, whilst Malaysia uses Electric railway). This train does NOT have a toilet, so do your business at the border. Overall, good train experience and smooth transitions while disembarking for border procedures and changing KTM trains.
★★★★☆ Jul 26, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Picked up train tickets from office opposite station in Bangkok (booked whilst in UK and received voucher within 24hrs as stated) no problem - staff member had excellent English. As smooth as I'd hoped - used this web site to book 3 train journeys and a bus run (Thailand & Malaysia) - confident to recommend this site.
★★★★☆ Jul 25, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Very convenient to buy SRT ticket. But when it comes to payment, it's a bit confusing. I had to do it multiple times.

★★★☆☆ Jul 12, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Booking the tickets was very expedient however, 12Go is not familiar with the actual train service. For instance, I booked a KL-Butterworth-Bangkok ticket which was provided very quickly. However, SRT (Thailand) trains no longer service Butterworth and stop at Padang Besar. When I was stuck at Butterworth, they could only advise that I ask the station for assistance and noted that they only sold the tickets, but were unfamiliar with the actual service and where the trains terminated. This was quite frustrating as I booked a ticket from Butterworth to Bangkok for a train that doesn't go to Butterworth, then had to buy an additional ticket to travel from Butterworth to Padang Besar.
★★★★☆ Jul 9, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Overall booking and pick up ticket experience is good. Staffs are friendly. Just the air con extremely cold especially in the night. Need to wait more than 1 hour at Padang Besar Immigration to change train to Malaysia.
★★★☆☆ Jul 9, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
We couldn't reach Butterworth in time. We were late by 2 hours plus. Does our insurance cover late arrival?
★★★★★ Jun 26, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Excellent service from 123Go in providing an online ticket reservation service. The staff on the train (2nd class a/c sleeper Bangkok to Butterworth ) are brilliant . Extremely polite and very efficient.
★★★★☆ Jun 25, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Online ordering, payment and the uplifting of the ticket was excellent. The train journey was marred by the fact that I shared a carriage with 3 very loud ladies who screamed at each other for all but the middle of the night. Just my luck that when we changed trains at the border, jaws rested, the same 3 consigned themselves to my carriage again. Had these women been on the ferry I would have jumped overboard.
★★★★★ Jun 12, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Pros: Very convenient as instructions were thorough and clear. Purchasing and picking up the tickets was straightforward. Cons: I arrived at Padang Besar at 10.45am, and the next train from Padang Besar to Butterworth was scheduled at 12.50pm. I feel this information should have been given to the passengers (I'm not sure is it 12go's responsibility, or the Train Service's responsibility).
★★★★★ Jun 8, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
My booking experience through 12go asia was excellent, though the train journey, though overall quite good, had some flaws....the food on boaŕd was just eadible, though the vendors at each stop were excellent, the staff need to enforce some sort of morning out of bed time call, as, though l was up and out of bed at 7.00, l had nowhere to sit..l am a large man, but found the top bunk good, though at night, the aircon gets VERY cold, more blankets needed, l took mine off another bed so l had2, just adequate...overall a good journey.

Great service from 12go. Train journey was a great experience. Quite delayed through Thailand, but KTM service was quick, meaning I still made my connection at Butterworth. Food from the onboard man for THB 400 (dinner and breakfast altogether) was very tasty (despite some inaccuracies about our breakfast orders!). Clever design for second class sleeper. Comfortable.

Awesome trip. The attendants were hospitable and attentive. The seat and sleeping bed are comfortable. However, commuication is the only problem as the staffs can't communicate well in English. Sometimes i need to speak through body languange.

Fantastic way to travel, sadly there was an accident online which could not be helped so we were transferred onto coach and continued on with our journey, we were later than usual but these things happen, I have just booked my further trip from butter worth to kuala lumpar and I'm excited about this also ????
12Go response:

Thank you for your rating and review William, truly appreciated! We are glad that you are satisfied with the transport service despite the accident that had happened.

Great CS from 12goasia. The train was ok, ran to schedule, 2nd class lower bed is big enough for two, nice clean sheets. Toilets and sink were both well maintained. 1 or 2 electric sockets were in each carriage. But tracks are getting old so all the bumping around makes sleeping difficult. Attendants get a bit pushy with the food menu, it's much better to bring your own food on board as the quality and price of the food on the train is not great. Passport control very quick but had to change to a Malaysian Electric train after the border, it's quicker, but no facilities on board (no toilet, food etc).

We would bring your advice to improve and develop even more.

Getting the ticket from their office was hassle free and easy. The girl at the office speaks good english so any confusion or travel matters can be settled right away. We asked them to buy us an upper and lower berth with the same seat number and they did just as we wanted. They'll also send you reminders/updates of your travel time, this is quite nice of them actually. I really enjoyed my trip. Thank you 12go.asia I'm looking forward to book again for my next trip.
★★★★★ Mar 8, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
The ticket collection was quick and easy. The staff spoke good English so it was easy to find out information from her. The train ride was wonderful, 12Go selected a good seat - away from the door so it was private and away from the smell from the toilet. The lower berth has a large window so you could enjoy the view. The train also provided clean sheets and a blanket. All in all a very pleasant ride. I will definitely return for another trip.
★★★☆☆ Mar 7, 2016 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
The tickets arrived direct from Thailand in very good time and there was no problem boarding the train and finding our seats. These were two doubles facing each other which folded at night into an upper and lower bunk. The hot food on the train was quite good and inexpensive. The night, however, was not a comfortable one. The toilets were poor and although there were wash basins outside there was nowhere to dry your hands. Lights in the carriage remained on all night which made it difficult to sleep and some sections of the track in Thailand are very bumpy. There were a few good views but most of the journey was in the dark. An interesting experience, but one I won't be repeating!
★★★★★ Mar 2, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :

★★★★★ Mar 1, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Thanks for another great service from 12go. Everything was great from booking online to collecting the tickets. The train ride was very good. I have no complaints and would not hesitate to do this journey again by train in the future
★★★★☆ Feb 28, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Ticket collection from 12go was easy and quick, just make sure you note their directions as their office isn't obvious from the street (and it's on a big road junction). The train trip was great, a proper old-style international sleeper train of a sort that has disappeared from much of the world. On the train, day seats are wide and well padded, bottom bunks are spacious and comfortable, stewards are excellent, toilets are ... usable. Meals from the restaurant car (served at your seat) are reasonable quality and excellent value, both on Thai and Malaysian sectors. For the more adventurous, vendors hop on while the train waits at many stations, though you may have to guess what they're selling unless your Thai is good. Passengers are a wide cross-section, Western, Eastern and local, and watching them is an experience in itself. As long as you're not in a rush, it's a great way to travel and see rural Thailand and Malaysia pass by your window.

Very good service. Very clean and comfortable
★★★★☆ Feb 21, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
The train trip is comfortable and clean. However, it is too cold. I think that it is not necessary to make the temperature so low as almost all the passengers wear jacket. It will be more 'green' if the temperature is adjusted to be higher.
★★★☆☆ Feb 16, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Yes, can be COLD be sure to have long pants, long sleeve shirt if not sweater. Thai Trains like it to be refrigerated.
★★★★★ Feb 10, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
It surpasses my expectation in term for cleanliness, punctuality and hospitality. I really enjoyed the trip and I also am very happy with 12go asia's ticket booking services. Very simple and easy.
★★★★★ Feb 6, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Can only confirm that the service from go asia was great and super efficient - big recommendation. Considering the price of the ticket there is really nothing to complain about the train journey. Some advices maybe: - Bring a pullover and long pants, the AC can be quite cool - Food from the local vendors that jump on/off the trains at the stations is around 10x cheaper than the meals that can be ordered in the train (even if it's still rather cheap for western standards) - There's really nothing at butterworth trainstation so make sure you have everything on you that you need.
★★★★★ Feb 4, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Great service from GoAsia. I enjoyed the trip
★★★★★ Feb 4, 2016 (train #35.1 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Buying ticket was nice and easy - Paypal, then collecting in12go office. If you have no time to buy it in person, might be the best option. Suggestion: Prepare yourself and put all of your clothes on since the AC is normally set to 15 celsius. Freezing.

Trips is Okay. Beware that it can be very cold during the night and that you should be prepared for this. You might also be unpleasantly confronted with some snoring neighbors. I do not know how to solve this one. At the Thai Malaysian border you have to leave the train with your luggage and pass the Border, Customs/Immigration and get back to your seat.

Tickets arrived no problem. Full marks to 12Go Asia. Will definitely use again. The journey...... For my wife and I it was fine. Food was great and staff were all smiles. For 77 year old mother in law, it was ok. Even with a bottom berth, it was nowhere near as comfy as the journey the other way. Have spent last two weeks on trains in Thailand and Malaysia and am ready to face an airport again!!
★★★★★ Dec 13, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Excellent service. The pick up office is located very conveniently near the station. The girls at the office are friendly and helpful. The Butterworth train is very comfortable. Although second class, in the lower bunk you have more room than if you had been in a first class sleeper. Referred to 12go.com by seat61.com.

★★★★☆ Dec 2, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
12Go Asia had our train tickets waiting for us in Bangkok. Full marks for the service. And they gave us a coffee when we collected the tickets. The train trip was as much fun as it was 40 years ago, much better than 24 hours cramped in a bus. The meals were enjoyable and reasonably priced. The man who served our meals was all smiles. Toilets basic but there was loo paper and water to flush. The only difficulty were getting back into the top bunk at 5am with the train swaying all over the place. Another handle to grab would help. Also there was little room to store bulky backpacks without them falling over. Maybe some belts or straps could be provided ? But no marks to immigration at the border. Half of us passengers were left standing on the baking hot platform for about 15-20 minutes, with diesel fumes choking us, while the first group of people was processed. Surely they could have let us all into the aircon building at the same time.
★★★★☆ Nov 20, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Great railway journey experience as recommended by The Man in Seat 61 website. Good value for 2nd class sleeper included with nice fresh bed linen, sheets made up in front of you! Food from restaurant car is fine although breakfasts could be improved. However you can buy excellent hot snacks when local street food sellers come on board at many station stops esp fried chicken. Toilets need to be modernised. It's an authentic way to travel, very social meeting lots of interesting people from many different nationalities and safe too. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

★★★☆☆ Nov 13, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Late departure from Bangkok,25 minutes. Air conditioning failed early into the trip, was fexed and then failed again for the rest of the trip. At the Thai/Malaysian border we changed to a different carriage? A long hold up at the Malaysian custom and immigration facility. Train arrived in Butterworth close to 2.5 hours late.
★★★☆☆ Nov 1, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Tickets arrived as promised by registered mail. Train much as we expected as we have done this journey previously from Butterworth to Hua Lamphong. The only option through to Butterworth is second class sleeper and I was on the top bunk which is very narrow with only two thin straps between you and the floor a long way down! The fluerescent lights stay on all night and shines through the top of the curtains. Bottom bunk is a much better option. Our cabin man was very miserable and unhelpful (although he seemed to be having great fun in the dining car with his fellow workers in the morning). We asked for another blanket as the airconditioning is very cold but were given a rude dismissal when there were plenty of spares on unused bunks. There are two toilets in each cabin - a squat and western toilet but the western toilet in our cabin was locked and out of order but you only found that out when you had waited 20 minutes for someone to come out. Food is just acceptable but plenty of vendors getting on the train at Hat Yai if you want something different. Although the train is old and worn looking it is an acceptable journey and beats flying. Some friendly helpful staff and a clean toilet would go a long way though!
★★★★★ Oct 27, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
Ticketing agency worked very well - very easy to work with and I would use the services again. As far as the train - not so great. I have made lots of train journeys in the world - this was one of the most uncomfortable. The food was acceptable and the waiter was friendly. Our cabin staff man did not seem to enjoy his job. The train was not clean - and I will not even mention the toilets. Immigration into Malaysia was not a problem, and the money changer on board gave fair rates to exchange currency. The route was ok - but not exotic enough for the length of the journey - which is no fault of the train system! Alcohol is no longer served on board.

★★★☆☆ Oct 20, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
The 12go.asia booking service was good. The train was fun. Hard to sleep when put to bed at 7.30pm, but that's me. The food available for dinner and breakfast was simple but good enough. Train staff were helpful. Butterworth station is a schmozzle, as is the access to the ferry to Penang. Up and down stairs, then up and down more, with luggage, then trying to walk through a turnstile to the ferry with luggage. No useful lifts or escalators. Yet the station is new. Strange setup. As others have mentioned, do not arrive at Butterworth without some Malaysian ringgits, enough for transport to your destination. There is no ATM or moneychanger at Butterworth station, nor at the border station. A moneychanger boarded the train at or near the border and offered reasonable rates. There is a moneychanger at Hua Lamphong station. Food and beverage on the train is bought in Bahts. All up, it was a good experience.
★★★★☆ Oct 20, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
It was so cold at night, the cafe in the train does not provide halal food for Muslims which made it difficult for us to have enjoy our lunch and dinner throughout the 22-hour of journey. ★★★☆☆ Sep 23, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
12go were great, the ticketing experience was flawless. The train ride not so much - the coupe is basically a freezer on wheels, I would estimate they set the AC to an insane 10-12 degrees Celsius, the locals were wearing winter jackets with scarfs but foreigners were totally screwed. Everybody tried to put on all the clothes they had but it wasn't enough, it was just a ride of freezing death. Personally I only had short pants and t-shirts - don't even think about doing that.. Another big problem was that the train was infested with bed bugs, got multiple bites plus woke up to bedbugs running around in front of my face.

★★★★☆ Sep 11, 2015 (train #31 Class II Sleeper AC, Thai Railways) :
I had trouble finding the 12GoAsia offices, but luckily there was a staffer booking other tickets in the train station. She was very helpful and retrieved my ticket for me. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of service on the train. Was told that, unfortunately, one of the higher quality sleeper cars was under repair and had to be replaced with an older model sleeper car. Practically, though, that wasn't a problem and it was quite amusing to get a 60 baht refund for the 'trouble'. Aircon was set a bit too low, so quite cold during the night. Staff were courteous and, overall, I had a very enjoyable trip.

However these 24 hours passed surprisingly quickly and painlessly :) Of course with that said, it is important to have a DECENT amount of patience and openness: you are in close quarters with strangers, and if the car is full it can be noisy and feel cramped. My compartment had people's luggage everywhere in the aisles and it was hard to store my own. Luckily I was with some very cool Thai and Japanese travelers, and we bonded quickly. This certainly helped the time pass enjoyably! One thing I didn't care for was that one of the crew cleans and stores the beds early (before 8)--too bad if you want to remain a while longer with your own space. This was the only real qualm I had but again, if you are patient and adaptable you will have a pleasant trip!

We enjoyed our train trip from Bangkok to Butterworth. The whole experience was very well managed except for one thing. I could not find any information about a departure tax leaving Thailand. Only info I could find concerned airline departures. As it turned out, we did not need to pay a departure tax, but we only found this out when we crossed the border.
12Go response:

Dear John, last time we heard about this tax was many years ago, and it was called "airport departure tax" and is now since 2007 included in flight ticket price. There was never any "bus or train departure tax" as far as we know. Thank you for the note - we may need add this info to FAQ.

The service from 12Go was excellent. Personal help and wonderful tips for unusual sightseeing in BKK. The trainride was nice, too. Much better than flying - more space, comfortable beds (try to get the lower ones), better for the environment. But a too cold aircon. So take a llongsleave or blankett.

Train itself is fine, perfectly comfortable to sleep on. I agree that once is enough, I think id fly next time. Train also 4 hours late getting to Butterworth!

Interesting and very educational. It makes you realise how good even low cost flights are! It's a great way to get a feel for Thailand and it's lovely people but once is enough. My wife hated the toilets.

Great experience. The lower berth booked for me would have been very comfortable, but when an elderly lady boarded the train I gave it to her and took the top bunk. I slept okay, but climbing up and down the ladder is a little bit of a task. None-the-less, I'm very glad I did it

Totally doable, however after immigration the seat can get taken as the train cars seperate usually the guard will help you find a place . Train was 2hrs late so you need to be flexible . Links well to the Penang ferry if thats your destination. Top bunk is ok but not recomended unless you are fit and flexible

nice experience, get a lower berth that pretty comfy. The Thai staff is fine. but a little unhappy when my seat 'been taken' by uninvited new passengers when I went out to stamp passport at the Padang Besar immigration / borders Thailand-Malaysia. KTMB should fix that!

It was a good trip. Have done it 3 times and would do it again. Booking the ticket was easy and the booking group did a good job getting me a ticket at high season. Kerry Irving Canada
