Bangkok to Padang Besar Destination Reviews

RO
I was pleased with my trip. Before the journey, my concerns were overcrowding, a sleepless night, having to set up the berth myself, and hunger. But my fears were unfounded. The train was uncrowded, I slept comfortably in a cozy berth, and a male attendant set up the berths himself. I was never hungry nor thirsty, because there were a lot of hawkers boarding the train from time to time to sell foodstuff. I now know that Thai Railways made sure it's passengers would be satisfied.

No plugs on the train, the lights are on all night and very rocky ride so it's not easy to sleep but still the best way to get to Malaysia by land from Bangkok in one trip. Toilets were fine one Western style with toilet roll the whole trip and was in decent condition throughout the journey.

The train left Hua Lamphong with 30min delay and arrived in Padang Besar with two hours delay! The track is obviously in bad condition, the wagon wobbled and crashed noisily, and the AC made the room so cold that it was practically impossible to sleep but all the clothes on. The toilets were unclean and there were no WC bowls, only holes in the floor, so relieving oneself was extremely difficult in the wobbling wagon. Next time we won't take the train, we'll fly!

12goasia were very efficient in getting me the ticket, thank you. The bed was comfortable, but the train looked a bit old and not very clean. Also, there is not a lot of room for luggage, so the aisle fills up with big suitcases and it gets tricky to go for a walk, especially with all the people selling food walking up and down the train. The toilets had probably seen better days: the cover of the toilet bowl was broken, water had been sprinkled everywhere around the sinks, and there was no paper. In the morning, they came very early to turn the beds back into seats, but they left several ones in bed mode because some people were still sleeping. After that, when everybody was up, they never came to finish the job, until we were almost at destination. However, as I said, the beds are very comfortable, and the train arrived at Padang Besar with about 45min delay, which is not too bad, as there is a 2.5 hour connection time to Butterworth.
