About Thai Vietjet
Company Information
Thai Vietjet is a relatively recent addition to the choice of budget air carriers in Thailand. Founded in 2014 with operations commenced on March, 25, 2015, VietJet Thailand is an associate company of the Vietnam-based VietJet Air, an international low-cost airline.
In Thailand, Thai VietJet Air operates from Suvarnabhumi international airport in Bangkok (BKK).
Thai VietJet airline’s IATA code is VZ.
The company’s fleet consists of Airbus A320-200 and A321-200 and features 11 aircraft.
Routes served by Vietjet Air
Operating from Bangkok’s airport, Chiang Rai airport and U-Tapao airport in Thailand VietJet Air flies to half a dozen domestic destinations and a similar number of international ones.
Thai VietJet domestic flights
The two by far most popular routes of the airline within Thailand are between the capital BKK airport and Phuket in the South and Chiang Mai in the North.
- The Bangkok–Phuket route has almost two dozen scheduled daily departures virtually any time of the day. A 90-minute flight sells well all year round – do book ahead.
- The Bangkok–Chiang Mai route enjoys a similarly high demand with a dozen Vietjet BKK–CNX and CNX–BKK departures a day. Flight duration is 80 minutes.
In case the above mentioned flights are fully booked, here is a decent alternative:
- Bangkok–Krabi to get south and
- Bangkok–Chiang Rai to get to the North.
Both of the latter routes feature much less departures – three and five respectively.
From the airport in Chiang Rai VietJet operates two routes: - Chiang Rai–Phuket that takes 2 hours 5 minutes. It is the only direct flight between these two destinations though some other airlines fly between Chiang Mai and Phuket.
- Chiang Rai–Udon Thani in Isan, in the Northeast. It is also a convenient gateway to Laos.
Thai VietJet international flights
The majority of Thai Vietjet Air international flights are operated from Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok.
- Bangkok–Da Nang flights bring you to the coast of the East Sea in an hour and 40 minutes.
- Bangkok–Lam Dong route heads to the namesake province where Dalat, known as the City of Eternal Spring is the capital. Flight duration is 1 hour 45 minutes.
In December, 2019, the airline launched direct flights between U-Tapao International Airport in Thailand which serves the sea resort city of Pattaya and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. These flights take between 75 and 90 minutes.
In Ho Chi Minh, it is easy and convenient to connect to other VietJet-operated flights to Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan.
VietJet Air Ticket Booking
Though Thai VietJet offers many flights on its most popular routes, it always pays to book early.
Online booking is easily done both via the airline’s official website and through the affiliated agencies.
Pros
- Thai Vietjet Air operates multiple flights a day from Bangkok to Thailand’s two most sought after destinations, Phuket and Chiang Mai. While we always recommend to book in advance, you normally almost always have a chance to grab a ticket with Thai VietJet at a short notice.
- The price of many of the airline’s flights is considerably lower than that of the competitors. It is a good choice if you are looking for a very budget-friendly option.
- Thai VietJet also flies to Vietnam from U-Tapao airport, the closest airport to Pattaya. At the moment there are very few regional flights operated from U-Tapao. If you start from Pattaya, it is a very convenient way to get to Vietnam skipping the necessity to travel to Bangkok.
- In Bangkok, Thai VietJet operates from Suvarnabhumi airport while the majority of other low-cost carriers are based in Don Mueang. Suvarnabhumi is much better connected to the city via buses and airport rail link, as well as with several other destinations countrywide via bus rides, hence it is more convenient to land in Suvarnabhumi than in Don Mueang especially if you are planning to go to your next destination e.g. Pattaya, Hua Hin, Koh Samet overland.
Cons
- Checked luggage is not included into your ticket price with VietJet. Although the initial fares are lower than those offered by some of Vietjet Air’s competitors, the overall cost of your flight after you pay for your luggage may be higher.
- Similarly, neither food nor on-board entertainment is included into the ticket price.
- Delays seem to be more common on Vietjet Air flights than on some other airlines operating along the same routes. Do plan accordingly.
