Routes served by Songserm

Bangkok– Koh Samui, Koh Phangan & Koh Tao

From Bangkok visitors can travel to most of the Thai islands that are the major tourist destinations you will have heard so much about.

Songserm connects Bangkok and Koh Samui with two services each day at 18.00 and 20.00 (scheduled to arrive on Koh Samui around 17 hours later at 11.20 and 13.15 respectively). There is one return journey per day, departing Koh Samui at 13.30. The duration of the journey to Bangkok is slightly shorter and is scheduled to arrive in the capital 15 or 16 hours later at around 05.00. Tickets are priced at THB850 from Bangkok and THB800 from Koh Samui.

These journeys are combination bus+ferry trips. You are being bussed to the port of Donsak in Suratthani province first and then you have to hop onto Songserm’s ferry. It is the contrary order in opposite direction.

You can visit Koh Phangan and Koh Tao from Bangkok with Songserm. These destinations are served with the same two departures each day at 18.00 and 20.00. Basically all travellers heading onto any of these three Gulf islands share the same bus and ferry.

The trip takes around 16 hours from Bangkok to Koh Phangan and a minimum of 14 hours to Koh Tao. Tickets to both destinations are priced from THB950. There is also one departure each day from Koh Tao to Bangkok at 14.30 each day, scheduled to arrive in the capital at around 05.00.

Between Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao

Songserm is a good option for those visitors looking to travel between islands. For example, there is one service each day between Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, departing at 12.30 and 10.00 respectively, with the short 90 minute trip priced at THB400.

From Koh Phangan, it is possible to visit Koh Samui directly with one departure at 12.30 each day. There are two services from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan each day, scheduled at 11.30 and 17.30. The journey takes just 45 minutes and tickets cost THB250 in either direction.

There is one service each morning in either direction between Koh Samui and Koh Tao, departing Koh Samui at 11.30 and leaving Koh Tao at 10.00, with tickets for the two to three hour trip priced at THB550.

Bangkok–Koh Phi Phi

Anyone in the capital and looking to visit Koh Phi Phi, can travel with Songserm on the daily service at 18.00 (tickets are priced at THB1,050), scheduled to arrive on the island for 10.30 the following morning, around 17 hours later. It is also a combination bus+ferry trip.

From Koh Phi Phi

From Koh Phi Phi, it is possible to visit other islands in the region such as Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Departures are scheduled for 10.30 each day to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan and 15.30 to Koh Tao. The trip is around seven or eight hours to both Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, whilst services to Koh Tao last around 14 hours. Tickets are priced at THB750, THB800 and THB1,000 to each destination respectively.

From Krabi

Songserm operates services from Krabi, from where you can visit all the above islands as well as Bangkok. There is one service each day in either direction between Bangkok and Krabi, scheduled to depart at 18.00 from the capital and at 17.30 from Krabi and operated completely by bus. The trip lasts approximately 12 hours with tickets from Bangkok priced at THB1,000 and fares from Krabi available for THB850.

There are two departures each day from Krabi to both Koh Samui and Koh Phi Phi, with tickets priced at THB600 and THB500. The journey duration is around five and three hours to each destination respectively. From both these islands there are also two return services each day heading back to Krabi.

From Krabi there is one departure each day to both Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, with services at 12.30 and 07.00 to each destination respectively. Tickets are priced at THB800 to Koh Phangan (six hours) and THB850 to Koh Tao (seven hours). From Koh Phangan you can visit Krabi on the daily service at 12.30, which is scheduled to arrive at 19.00.

From Suratthani

Songserm offers the cheapest deals for combination bus+ferry deals from Suratthani town, Suratthani train station and Suratthani airport to the islands of the Gulf.

There is one service at 07.00 each day from Suratthani to Koh Samui, with tickets for the four hour trip available for THB400. When departing Koh Samui for Suratthani, passengers have the option of terminating at the city’s train station or airport. The ferry leaves Koh Samui at 13.30 each day, with tickets priced at THB350 and THB550 to Suratthani train station and airport respectively. There is also one departure from Suratthani to both Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, leaving at 07.00 each day, costing THB450 and THB750 respectively.

Pros

Songserm is one of the best options for visitors looking to travel between several of the stunning islands in this region, with a huge range of routes available.

Also useful for visitors is the option of overnight trips on several of the routes, especially those to and from Bangkok, which provides some flexibility when planning a trip.

The combination tickets from Bangkok to the islands are a good hassle-free option as the price includes both the bus and ferry tickets. This is far easier than travelling from Bangkok to the coast and then having to purchase a separate ticket for a ferry to your destination.

Songserm offers some of the cheapest combination tickets from Bangkok to the islands.

Cons

The biggest issue is the duration of some of these trips. As there are only a limited number of ferry services available, you can sometimes have a wait of several hours between getting off the bus and boarding the ferry. This is less than ideal if the trip is already 10 or 12 hours long anyway!

Keep in mind

Durations of services can vary so it is worth checking the duration of your chosen service before you book your ticket to avoid a longer trip than necessary.

Travellers reviews

Passengers are pleased with the wide range of routes on offer when travelling with Songserm, with the operator being an ideal choice for island hopping. It is easy to visit islands such as Koh Samui from cities such as Bangkok, Krabi and Suratthani so it is even possible to reach Koh Samui from outside of Thailand by travelling with Songserm from the airport.

September 2017

Michelle, Sep 12, 2017 - Very good
Alina, Sep 8, 2017 - Trip was good, but the bus was two hours late.
Jan, Sep 7, 2017 - We waited 2 hours to bus.
Reef, Sep 4, 2017 - A simple trip from Koh Phangan to Koh Tao, no casualities, the tv helped pass the time with a funny movie. What was amazing was the air and the wind outside and the beautiful view. Thank you
Pepijn, Sep 1, 2017 - Having to wait 3 hours between buses ( Surat thai) at a place close to nothing, even then they manage to let the bus come 45 minutes to late.

August 2017

Jan, Aug 31, 2017 - Travel was without any problem or delay. Standard of the bus or ferry very low
Georgina, Aug 25, 2017 - Took much longer than stated on the website, booked the combination bus and ferry that left at 7:30, the stated arrival time was 11:15 am. Our actual arrival time was 1pm, with our booked ferry leaving at 10am for the three hour crossing. The time it was stated that we would arrive on the booking was therefore simply impossible, I assume they are saying it will take less time to get more bookings. Do not pick Songserm if you need to get a connecting flight / train, or if you do add three hours to the predicted time. We got a Lomprayah ferry and bus on the way back as they have high speed boats and don't lie about the time it takes. Two stars however because despite the lateness, the boat was really quite nice: there were seats on the prow if you wanted to go outside in the sun and wind. We were dropped off by the coach by the pier in a place to wait for the ferry that served pretty damn good fried rice too.
Danielle, Aug 23, 2017 - Dirty and late, cockroaches and awful entertainment on the screens. The journey was also and hour and half late
Natasha, Aug 22, 2017 - Positives- air conditioning was very cool and blankets were given out. Luggage was kept safe. Toilet stops twice through duration of journey. Negatives- could not get two seats together where both were fully functioning and working. The coach was not very clean and the toilet was awful (it could Be smelt from upstairs). The stop at 1am was the only stop to get food and the coach left late from the bus station.
Danielle, Aug 22, 2017 - Bus wasn't dirty and uncomfortable and ferry too but it all got us where we wanted to go in not too much time
Bryan, Aug 20, 2017 - The ticket stated a transfer from the ferry to "any hotel", and while booking asked for the specific hotel address. After the ferry we were guided to a minivan branded with the logo of the ferry company, decorated with the same transfer stickers we had received upon entering the ferry, and with some other tourists already inside who were telling us this was the right van. However to each of the occupants' surprise the van driver stopped eight after hitting the edge of town, and told us to get out and if we had wanted a transfer to a specific hotel we should have booked a taxi... This feels like the ferry company selling scam "ferry+transfer" tickets through 12go, or the van drivers just getting away with being lazy. I recommend other travellers to stick with just a normal ferry ticket, as there are plenty of taxis at the ferry terminal in Krabi waiting for you. As for the ferry itself: it departed half an hour late and was very crowded. The room between seats is literally the smallest I have ever seen. Perhaps this fits for people on the shorter side (children, the average Thai), but for me only about half of my upper leg could have fit, so I resorted to sitting at a 90 degree angle with my legs into the aisle. The ferry did get us from Koh Phi Phi to Krabi though.
Sylvia, Aug 16, 2017 - All went well!
Roseleen, Aug 16, 2017 - It was 150 baht cheaper to buy at the counter in the airport. Pre booking just gave me the peace of mind I needed to know I would get on the ferry in time. The girls on reception were super lovely, helpful and put me on an earlier ferry.
Mohammad, Aug 16, 2017 - Was a very fun trip, organized and professional. The only stop has somewhat edgy staff. Trip was super comfortable though. Ac is either broken or freezing. Worth it.
Nerissa, Aug 15, 2017 - All as expected. Boat on time and bus arrived when it said it would on 12asiago we sit. Took about 6 hrs, so long journey. Comfy bus.
Sjoerd, Aug 13, 2017 - Rather unfriendly attitude at the ticketoffice. Screenshot from email wasn't accepted as proof though on their internetsite it was said that just a screenshot was required. Couldn't find the original email with the ticket in it. After a lot of stress they accepted making a picture of the screenshot. Departure was delayed half an hour without any explanation. Boat was okay.
Dr, Aug 10, 2017 - Little information provided. Bus took much longer than expected, was worn and dirty with no air con. The ferry was late, disorganised and difficult to get information. Fortunately we were not in a rush and did get us from point A to Be safely.
Stephane, Aug 10, 2017 - One-hour delayed departure. Awful unbearable engine vibration noise. Almost no air conditioning.
Vivien, Aug 7, 2017 - We wanted to leave koh phangan a day early. We went to the ticket Office With our tickets of the 7th and asked if it was possible to switch them for the 6th. It was not a problem at all ????☺️
Alexander, Aug 5, 2017 - No communication for when we leave and the busdriver look likes his on drugs and not friendly at all.. sorry you can be tyerd or fedd up with seeing tourist all the time but then you dont do the job
Rico, Aug 2, 2017 - The bus had not a toilet it whas defect and very dirty. The communication whas not good on the whole trip
Andrew, Aug 1, 2017 - Very cheeky that the bus drops off at an out of town depot that requires a further taxi
Lisa, Aug 1, 2017 - Works very good

July 2017

Brian, Jul 31, 2017 - Ferry arrived 1 hour later in Koh phangan than the 11:45 that we booked. Not the express ferry we were expecting
Vaclav, Jul 28, 2017 - Took a littlenmore time, but without complications
Jonas, Jul 27, 2017 - Well-organised bustrip. Good timing, and pretty good seats to sleep in.
Bente, Jul 26, 2017 - We didnt know we have had to print the tickets. We came at the pier and couldn't get on the boat because we didnt had the tickets on paper. Wich backpacker has a printer with!? We had to buy a new ticket. Very, very dissapointed!!! Never book again at 12go.asia - 12Go: Dear Bente Sophie, Thank you very much for bringing this up to us. We investigated with the operator and they would like to apologize for the confusion. There was a new employee working on that day who was not aware about the e-ticket option. I am really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused to you. We will fully refund all your costs. Best regards, 12Go Management Team
Shanon, Jul 24, 2017 - Not the most comfortable ride, but was warned of this and the price reflected it so cant complain
Ryan, Jul 22, 2017 - Ferry arrived 30 minutes late
Elroy, Jul 19, 2017 - It wasnt that organised once we reached the pier we didnt know where to go so we asked around. When the ferry arrived we take for granted that its ours so we just followed everyone to the boat and lucky enough there's a kind policeman saw the sticker on our shirt and point us to the correct direction.
Hanne, Jul 16, 2017 - Very stressfull expierience! Loud shouting guys at the bus station, stressing all passengers, no politeness at all and no time for answering questions. Treated us as cows going to the slaughterhouse. On the ferry it was ok, but we were sold transfer by minivan directly to our hotel but soon expirienced that we were put in a shared minivan with 2 other companies.. which meant that it took ages and several stop at other hotels before we got to ours! If only we had been told from the start ...but when you buy a Direct transfer you expect it to be so! Also the driver couldnt find our hotel and we had to use our own mobile phone to show him the route on a map! Not satisfactory at all!! Would choose another Company next time for sure!
Calvin, Jul 15, 2017 - Perfectly good crossing, comfortable seats, and more efficient than other operators when boarding
Nicole, Jul 12, 2017 - Ferry didn't even arrive to the pier until 30min late (*Thai time is a real thing!!! So this didn't bother/surprise me that much). Staff was pretty organized once reaching Don Sak in getting everyone on correct vans, buses, etc.
Anne-maud, Jul 7, 2017 - You get what you expect.
Matthew, Jul 6, 2017 - Nothing special about my experience. It gets you where you need to go. From Surat Thani it took about a 2 hour bus ride and then a 4 hour ferry ride to get to koh Tao. Ferry had to stop by koh Samui and koh phagnan on the way
Gianluca, Jul 6, 2017 - wc dirty no pleasent people room not confortable, old seats, bad smell it was not a good trip (bad organization to wait and go in the ferry)
Michelle, Jul 5, 2017 - We were led from the travel agency to the main road to meet the bus - but alas, no bus! We stood around in the rain for a half an hour before being told the bus couldn't park there and we had to walk another ten minutes to meet it. Not that big of a deal, but none of this was communicated to us and the walk itself seemed dangerous as we were not led across cross walks (and for a short bit through mud). The estimated time for the overall journey online was 15 1/2 hours, so we were prepared for a long haul. But when we arrived to the ferry port it was 3:30 am, with the ferry leaving at 7 am. This meant sitting around in the dark outside for hours, which could easily be prevented by scheduling the bus to leave at 10 or 11 or even 12 rather than 8 pm. Once again, not that big of a deal but the illogicism is a bit baffling. What was indeed a 15 1/2 hour journey could so easily be cut down to something kinder to the soul. In the end, it was all fine and nothing was abjectly terrible - it's just little scheduling inconsistencies that prolong what's already a tiring journey. We knew what we were signing up for, these are just specific things we noticed along the way that could have a fairly simple fix.

June 2017

Mikaela, Jun 25, 2017 - The ferry was dirty. The buse's were packed full and we had to sit on a broken seat. We had a over 3 hour bus layover in a dump which we were not told about. Our bus driver stopped randomly for a smoke but wouldn't let anyone off the bus when there was a 7/11 right there. We stopped once at 130 am for food with only one restaurant with not very good food. It was terrible. We arrived in Bangkok over 2.5 hours late and didn't even go to a terminal. .he dropped us at an intersection.
Inga, Jun 22, 2017 - Our boat trip was fine but when we were going to go to the airport, our driver, which we had already paid for, gave us trouble because we didn't have a printed out ticket. It says that we could print out or have the booking number on hand, which we did on our phone. And even though I showed him this, he gave me attitude and gave us no answer as to what we were supposed to do. We eventually got the ride, even though he wasn't happy about it. So all in all that was an annoying experience.
