Company Informarion

Songserm is a ferry operator that prides itself on its position specializing in transport throughout the Gulf of Thailand, with services to a wide range of world-famous beaches and resorts across several stunning islands.

Routes served by Songserm

Bangkok– Koh Samui, Koh Phangan & Koh Tao

From Bangkok visitors can travel to most of the Thai islands that are the major tourist destinations you will have heard so much about.

Songserm connects Bangkok and Koh Samui with two services each day at 18.00 and 20.00 (scheduled to arrive on Koh Samui around 17 hours later at 11.20 and 13.15 respectively). There is one return journey per day, departing Koh Samui at 13.30. The duration of the journey to Bangkok is slightly shorter and is scheduled to arrive in the capital 15 or 16 hours later at around 05.00. Tickets are priced at THB850 from Bangkok and THB800 from Koh Samui.

These journeys are combination bus+ferry trips. You are being bussed to the port of Donsak in Suratthani province first and then you have to hop onto Songserm’s ferry. It is the contrary order in opposite direction.

You can visit Koh Phangan and Koh Tao from Bangkok with Songserm. These destinations are served with the same two departures each day at 18.00 and 20.00. Basically all travellers heading onto any of these three Gulf islands share the same bus and ferry.

The trip takes around 16 hours from Bangkok to Koh Phangan and a minimum of 14 hours to Koh Tao. Tickets to both destinations are priced from THB950. There is also one departure each day from Koh Tao to Bangkok at 14.30 each day, scheduled to arrive in the capital at around 05.00.

Between Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao

Songserm is a good option for those visitors looking to travel between islands. For example, there is one service each day between Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, departing at 12.30 and 10.00 respectively, with the short 90 minute trip priced at THB400.

From Koh Phangan, it is possible to visit Koh Samui directly with one departure at 12.30 each day. There are two services from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan each day, scheduled at 11.30 and 17.30. The journey takes just 45 minutes and tickets cost THB250 in either direction.

There is one service each morning in either direction between Koh Samui and Koh Tao, departing Koh Samui at 11.30 and leaving Koh Tao at 10.00, with tickets for the two to three hour trip priced at THB550.

Bangkok–Koh Phi Phi

Anyone in the capital and looking to visit Koh Phi Phi, can travel with Songserm on the daily service at 18.00 (tickets are priced at THB1,050), scheduled to arrive on the island for 10.30 the following morning, around 17 hours later. It is also a combination bus+ferry trip.

From Koh Phi Phi

From Koh Phi Phi, it is possible to visit other islands in the region such as Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Departures are scheduled for 10.30 each day to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan and 15.30 to Koh Tao. The trip is around seven or eight hours to both Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, whilst services to Koh Tao last around 14 hours. Tickets are priced at THB750, THB800 and THB1,000 to each destination respectively.

From Krabi

Songserm operates services from Krabi, from where you can visit all the above islands as well as Bangkok. There is one service each day in either direction between Bangkok and Krabi, scheduled to depart at 18.00 from the capital and at 17.30 from Krabi and operated completely by bus. The trip lasts approximately 12 hours with tickets from Bangkok priced at THB1,000 and fares from Krabi available for THB850.

There are two departures each day from Krabi to both Koh Samui and Koh Phi Phi, with tickets priced at THB600 and THB500. The journey duration is around five and three hours to each destination respectively. From both these islands there are also two return services each day heading back to Krabi.

From Krabi there is one departure each day to both Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, with services at 12.30 and 07.00 to each destination respectively. Tickets are priced at THB800 to Koh Phangan (six hours) and THB850 to Koh Tao (seven hours). From Koh Phangan you can visit Krabi on the daily service at 12.30, which is scheduled to arrive at 19.00.

From Suratthani

Songserm offers the cheapest deals for combination bus+ferry deals from Suratthani town, Suratthani train station and Suratthani airport to the islands of the Gulf.

There is one service at 07.00 each day from Suratthani to Koh Samui, with tickets for the four hour trip available for THB400. When departing Koh Samui for Suratthani, passengers have the option of terminating at the city’s train station or airport. The ferry leaves Koh Samui at 13.30 each day, with tickets priced at THB350 and THB550 to Suratthani train station and airport respectively. There is also one departure from Suratthani to both Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, leaving at 07.00 each day, costing THB450 and THB750 respectively.

Songserm is one of the best options for visitors looking to travel between several of the stunning islands in this region, with a huge range of routes available.

Also useful for visitors is the option of overnight trips on several of the routes, especially those to and from Bangkok, which provides some flexibility when planning a trip.

The combination tickets from Bangkok to the islands are a good hassle-free option as the price includes both the bus and ferry tickets. This is far easier than travelling from Bangkok to the coast and then having to purchase a separate ticket for a ferry to your destination.

Songserm offers some of the cheapest combination tickets from Bangkok to the islands.

The biggest issue is the duration of some of these trips. As there are only a limited number of ferry services available, you can sometimes have a wait of several hours between getting off the bus and boarding the ferry. This is less than ideal if the trip is already 10 or 12 hours long anyway!

Keep in mind

Durations of services can vary so it is worth checking the duration of your chosen service before you book your ticket to avoid a longer trip than necessary.

Travellers reviews

Passengers are pleased with the wide range of routes on offer when travelling with Songserm, with the operator being an ideal choice for island hopping. It is easy to visit islands such as Koh Samui from cities such as Bangkok, Krabi and Suratthani so it is even possible to reach Koh Samui from outside of Thailand by travelling with Songserm from the airport.

January 2018

Tareq, Jan 14, 2018 - First of all i lost a bag in the station and i couldnt get it back, second non of the workers spoke english so they didnt even bother answering us, they treated the bags like shit. WORST COMPANY EVER!!
Jason, Jan 13, 2018 - Well organized. A lot of bus swaps but then to be expected.
Victor, Jan 11, 2018 - Overall a great trip, everything was as we were told, the only negative thing we experienced was that the owner of the stop halfway was a real jeark, he shouted really loud and was very rude in his tone. Furthermore the other guests on the bus seemed like the didn’t care about how much space they were taking, and a lot of the passengers took 2 seats, putting them both down, This is not a negative thing about the trip, but just a reminder to our fellow travelers to stay kind.
Sophie, Jan 11, 2018 - A really easy, quick and smooth service. Great value for money!
Alessio, Jan 10, 2018 - Well organized and quite comfortable. To improve the time of arrival to the pier to avoid to wait 4 hrs the ferry...
Mari, Jan 9, 2018 - The transfer was efficient and quickly. But it was difficult to get my luggage at the end of the trip with the ferry.
Gabriel, Jan 9, 2018 - The bus felt unsafe-the driver was speeding and the bus swayed side to side significantly. The bathroom was disgusting, with the light burnt out, and a sink that has no running water. Usb ports don't work- so you can't charge your phone and the TV was off the entire time. Stops are sporadic and unannounced until we arrive and then someone gets in the bus to yell out how much time we have left until the bus leaves. It's very difficult to understand this person. Not to mention, that after we got off the fairy from job samui, we initially got into a bus that smelled like mold and was dirty with used paper tissue in our seats and the air circulator that was broken. We then were told to get off the bus after about 45 min and had to wait 2.5 hours for the double decker safety hazard.
Thomas, Jan 8, 2018 - Boat departed very late. Arrived 18:10 instead of 17:05
Marjan, Jan 7, 2018 - The bus left before the scheduled time. 13 minutes in this case. Lucky for us we arrived 15 minutes before the scheduled departure. The bus was old, but very comfortable and clean. The staff was not very kind. The boat was nasty. We saw 4 different kinds of bugs, including cockroaches. The noise was insane, coming from the engine. The ride itself was comfortable though. The 12go asia experience was good though. Prompt emailing and getting the tickets at the desk was easy.
Mr, Jan 7, 2018 - I was physically slapped by one of the crew when he shouted at me to move seats
Ganna, Jan 7, 2018 - Everything was fine, but we arrived in Bangkok almost 2 hours earlier than the scheduled arrival time... I mean what do you do in Bangkok at 3 am with luggage? Further good service, rather comfortable seat (for a bus)
Diane, Jan 6, 2018 - When arriving at Nathon pier, officers in the songserm agency converted our voucher into tickets without giving us any information. Consequently, we had no clue on what was supposed to happen next... Because no one knew anything, getting on boat board was a total chaos. The boat itself was a total mess with people sleeping on the floor everywhere, except in the areas where incomfortable, non-inclineable and incredibly narrow seats were. It was really dirty: my neighbour squashed a cockroach on the headrest in front of him ! When the boat arrived at the last pier, we had no idea of where we were and had only 5 minutes to grab a bus (total chaos again), hoping it would take us to the right place (the drivers couldn't speak a word of english and thus could not really confirm the destination) ! Actually, it took us to a kind of "bus cemetary" in Surathani, where we had to get out of the first bus and wait around 45 minutes for our bus to Bangkok to leave. Food offer there was really reduced and expensive, while mosquito population was really dense thanks to the river just next. The bus to Bangkok was ok but only stopped once around midnight (we left Surathani at 6:30pm) in a creepy restaurant where the choice was also limited and the prices high. Finally, we arrived in Bangkok safely but really exhausted by this chaotic was 4am, and I can insure you that it is not really convenient to be one hour in advance in town at this time of the day !
Jagpreet, Jan 5, 2018 - Very easy
John-peter, Jan 5, 2018 - the transport was ok, apart from the big delay. In addition, the boat was completely overcrowded.
Avon, Jan 4, 2018 - Great service and comfortable onboard the ferry. Expect the ferry to be full as it is the last ferry of the day to Koh Phangan from Na Thon.
Alex, Jan 4, 2018 - Nothing pretty or fancy, but cheap and quick.
Michal, Jan 2, 2018 - Songserm is treating people like garbage. The bus was more than half an hour late (first stop) and instead of the same bus driving directly from Krabi to Bangkok, we had to change to the new bus two hours into the journey. The changing place was in the middle of nowhere in Surat Thani (9°10'48.3"N 99°21'58.1"E The new bus was already waiting further in the car park, but despite the rain, all passengers had to take their luggage from the first bus to the bus station, only to put them again to the new bus about 20-30 minutes later, once the last passengers bought sandwiches sold at the station! The toilet costed 5 baths, charging a mobile 20 baths, and WiFi 30 bats. Finally on the road, the bus stopped for 30 minutes for a break, again in the middle of nowhere (Che Et Kaolao Apparently, Songserm must have a deal with them, there were other buses as well, as we paid exactly 200 baths for 5 banana, a small package of Oreo and a small water. At any local shop this costs around 50 Baths, so the margin multiplied by a number of passengers really makes a good cake to share between the Songserm and the “restaurant”. Once the bus arrived in Bangkok, all passengers were rushed to exit the bus, and the luggage was taken off to the sidewalk by the staff. In contrast with companies like Phet Prasert or Phitsanulok Tour, that we took for Phitsanulok - Chiang Mai and Bangkok - Phitsanulok, respectively, where all passengers were taken care off during the entire trip, given water and snacks, and having assisting personal on board all the time, Songserm is just here to rip off tourists and treat them below any standards. Avoid Songserm at all cost!
Vicknesh, Jan 2, 2018 - Slow
Arpit, Jan 1, 2018 - They called us at 6:00PM but the bus didn't depart till 7:45 and then they didn't stop at any good stop instead they stopped at some very local thai restaurant with no 7/11 around and then they made me hop 3 buses and due to which we reached 1:30 hours late

December 2017

Willem, Dec 31, 2017 - Going from Koh Tao to Suratthani was easier this time. I think it’s because you know what to expect. We did not have to change boats and was informed everyone Of what island stop was next. When we arrived at the pier the mini bus was already waiting for us so we got taken straight to the airport.
Robyn, Dec 31, 2017 - No water or snacks provided, no free meal provided as is typical on overnight buses I've otherwise taken. Unexpected change of buses in the middle of the night. No toilet paper/tissues or trashcan in bathroom, which was a mess. Just not what I was expecting. Certainly not as good as other bus lines I've been on in Thailand.
Zoe, Dec 31, 2017 - Disorganized, took two hours longer than expected. My suitcase was broken when it was thrown on to the pier.
Charlotte, Dec 30, 2017 - Disorganized, inefficient, unsanitary, cold, unhelpful service operators, stressful experience overall
Mike, Dec 30, 2017 - very Bad conditions, pleace change this Toilet Buses with broken seats, air condition since 1982. I don’t recommend this line absolutlly !
Noam, Dec 29, 2017 - Slow service, no instruction
Leandro, Dec 29, 2017 - The bus is old and poor cared. The boat is excellent, but they're very disorganized in the pier. It was chaotic in the landing, but fortunately we and our bags encounter ourselves again.
Kirsty, Dec 29, 2017 - They make you wait to get on the ferry. The ride to koh phangan took about 6 hours in total n was jammed full of people. The waves were insane to the point everyone had sea sickness.
Marleen, Dec 29, 2017 - We have to choose a pickup point in Krabi so we did that but when we arrived at that hotel: andaman pearl resort they didn’t know anything. So we booked a new taxi and payed again and he brought us to the pier. Next time be sure where the people need to go and where not
Dejan, Dec 29, 2017 - plus: we got to the destination :) and it was super cheap cons: we waited for a ferry for 3,5h in the dark (outside), the baggage was poorly organized overal a good value for money
Valeria, Dec 28, 2017 - One hour late departure and great mess in the distribution of people for each bus at Bangkok. Too long waiting between one bus and the other. We should arrive at 10.30 at Phi Phi ane we arrived at 15.00. Never again.
Yuki, Dec 28, 2017 - There was an accident off which a wheel comes.
Stephanie, Dec 27, 2017 - Very smooth trip from koh phangan to ao nang. Appeared well organised. Thank you.
Vicknesh, Dec 27, 2017 - Very late and delayed
Derek, Dec 27, 2017 - All good :) decent price and arrived on set times :)
Grace, Dec 27, 2017 - great trip
Tanner, Dec 23, 2017 - We were re-routed on our way to the pier, was not told any information about doing so. Very confused and delayed we finally left the mainland to take a ferry to Koh Tao. The ferry made an additional two stops at different islands along the way, a totally different route than we had booked. Would have liked a general heads up about re-routing, even perhaps by email. Other than a mini bottle of water and a small snack on the initial overnight bus, we were given nothing else to eat or drink. Snacks and water were available for a very inflated rate, even had to pay to use the restroom while transferring. What should 13 hour trip turned 20 hour journey with lots of un-answered questions. Would not recommend Songserm
Dawid, Dec 22, 2017 - Ferry was cancelled but we were transfered to other speed boat. Only in Chomprun we beed to wait 3hr for another bus.
Jessica, Dec 22, 2017 - The ferry was almost an hour late, then we had a 2 hour stop at a place with Oreos and chips for food, and then stopped again on the side of an interstate for 30+ min with no explanation while we apparently waited to pick people up from another bus. Communication could have been much better. Arrived on time, but theres nothing to do at 5:30am so you're paying for accommodations anyways. I would just pay extra to take the flight next time.
Virginia, Dec 21, 2017 - If I could leave 0 starts I would! The boat was an hour late and the joint ride back would not drop us off at our resort had to leave us 30 minutes before and we had to find our way to our hotel. Very disappointed in your service will not recommend to anyone
Tomas, Dec 19, 2017 - The organization was horrible. I had need to wait 1h for take a bus that in really was a van. It smile bad and dirty.
