Company Information

Based in Pattaya, Royal Passenger Liner operates catamarans with a capacity of 346 passengers. These ferries offer a choice between economy and business class seats and even VIP rooms which can seat up to eight people. The operation started in January 2017.

Routes served by Royal Passenger Liner

Pattaya–Hua Hin

Royal Passenger Liner operates just one route – Pattaya to Hua Hin. There is one departure each morning at 10.00 from Pattaya, which is scheduled to arrive in Hua Hin for 12.00. Economy tickets are priced at THB1,250 whilst business class fares are available for THB1,550.

Tickets for the return journey from Hua Hin to Pattaya are available at the same price and there is also one service each day, departing Hua Hin at 12.30. There are two VIP rooms available on both these services from THB14,000 and each room has a maximum capacity of eight passengers.

Pros

The trip by sea takes just two hours compared to around six hours by road so is ideal for any travellers on a tight schedule. However, travelling with Royal Passenger Liner will cost around three times as much as a bus trip between the two cities, but many visitors will still consider this good value for money based on the amount of time saved.

Cons

There is only one service each day in either direction which can be inconvenient for many travellers. It may not be ideal to arrive in Pattaya at 14.30 at the earliest, especially if you have a flight to catch from the airport or you have a connection to a destination elsewhere in Thailand. For many, this arrival time in Pattaya would be too late which could mean that you have to cut your time in Hua Hin short to leave a day earlier and stay overnight in Pattaya. For most visitors this will make little difference but in some cases it can cause a lot of inconvenience.

Although snacks are included on this trip, there is no opportunity aboard the catamarans to purchase meals or additional snacks. Although this trip is only two hours long so it may not be an issue for the majority of passengers, it is worth planning ahead especially if you have travelled for a few hours before you board the ferry.

The sea can be rough on this route so it is well worth bringing sea sickness tablets if this is something that you do suffer with!

Keep in mind

The route between Pattaya and Hua Hin by sea takes just two hours, far preferable than the five or six hours it takes to drive between the two cities.

You have to present a valid ID before boarding the ferry.

Please do come in advance! The departure time really depends on the weather and tides, and they can start off bit earlier than they advertise.

It is a great choice if you value comfort and time more than money. Good for tourists, not very good for frequent commuting.

Travellers reviews

The biggest advantage with travelling with Royal Passenger Liner is the amount of time that you can save compared to attempting the same journey by land. This can be vital if you are on a tight schedule and do not want to miss two of Thailand’s most popular and well-established beach resorts. Many visitors consider the price to be fair considering this journey will not take up an entire day of your holiday, as would be the case with a bus journey.

Some visitors view the limited departures as inconvenient, especially the Hua Hin to Pattaya route as you will not arrive in Pattaya until 14.30 at the earliest. This can cause issues if you are flying from the airport or you need to head elsewhere in Thailand on a connecting bus or train. Similarly, there is just one departure from Pattaya at 10.00 each day, which means that if you are travelling from outside the city to catch this catamaran then you will need to stay one night in Pattaya as 10.00 is likely to be too early for many.

November 2017

Robert, Nov 22, 2017 - Great way to get across to Hua Hin, only 2 hours instead of the 5 hours on the bus
Richard, Nov 20, 2017 - I was issued with tickets sailing from Bali Hai Pier to Khao Ta Kiab pier on Nov. 20, 2017. When we arrived at the pier at the appointed time, we learned that the whole harbour was closed for a military operation. This was known at the time I made the reservation. We had to make a 6 hour journey by taxi instead of a 2 hour journey by boat. Why was I sold tickets for a sailing that could not take place?
Tung, Nov 19, 2017 - A very smooth and comfortable ride that went according to schedule. Perhaps there weren't many passengers on that day and the sea was calm. On arrival at the Bali Hai pier, it started raining heavily and the long walk meant that everyone and everything were drenched. It would be a nice touch if umbrellas or raincoats were provided to the passengers.
Richard, Nov 18, 2017 - Very comfortable. Staff helpful but boat left Hua Hin approximately 30 minutes late and arrived at Pattaya 50 minutes late even though the sea was very calm and no wind. It is a long pier in Pattaya with no help for the elderly. We are over 70.
Lill, Nov 18, 2017 - It was to hot onboard the boat.
Taylor, Nov 17, 2017 - Very professional and staff was helpful. The ferry is clean and very spacious. Would definitely recommend
Surrinder, Nov 16, 2017 - Fantastic service !!!
Wade, Nov 12, 2017 - Excellent service - highly recommend
Larry, Nov 11, 2017 - Really smooth crossing, on time and competent staff throughout.
Paul, Nov 9, 2017 - Very professionally operated, both before boarding and whilst on it. The Ferry is modern and well equipped and does the journey very easily, however it was a very windy day and this made the actual journey pretty tough for those like me who are not good on boats!!
Poh, Nov 6, 2017 - Because of the weather ferry stop services, so what can we do - 12Go: Dear PANG POH LOON, Please accept our apologies, you will receive a full refund for the ferry that did not depart due to the weather. Best regards, Arseniy Vasylenko, 12Go Business Development Team
Gustaf, Nov 5, 2017 - The ferry was canceled due to bad weather which we found way out at the Pier. This should be evident before you drag luggage and children all the way out there. Evidently there is no refund in cases of poor weather. The staff at the office was helpful and helped us to order a taxi to Hua Hin from Pattaya after we asked them to do it but these arrangements should be prepared for customers in such circumstances. The 5000 baht we had prepayed was lost since we could not wait for a later ferry. Some arrangements or discount for customers should be offered who prepays large sums for the service. - 12Go: Dear Gustaf Hammarloef, Please accept our apology for failing to communicate that the trip was canceled. However, in this case, there is a full refund available, but the operator could not make a refund on the spot. The refund must come from our side. You will receive a full refund for the trip to your credit card. Best regards, Arseniy Vasylenko, 12Go Business Development Team
William, Nov 3, 2017 - It was a very rough boat ride. Most of the people on board were sick. The staff did a fantastic job trying to help all the sick people but the times need to be reviewed according to the weather. I would suggest moving this to earlier in the morning when there is less wind and smaller waves.
Ritesh, Nov 1, 2017 - Delayed arrival.

October 2017

Aleh, Oct 31, 2017 - All is OK except walking way to ferry. It’s under construction
Graeme, Oct 29, 2017 - Long walk at Bali Hi pier and rip off taxis waiting for you
John, Oct 25, 2017 - Very good but long walk on pier at pattaya. Should hire cart.
Robert, Oct 19, 2017 - Excellent trip.... staff very helpful and speak good English. The ferry was on time, very comfortable and it was a lovely crossing. The quay where we docked at Pattaya however is disgraceful. So far to walk for older persons (us) with some medical difficulties, at least a kilometer !!! No one to help you with luggage, and no assistance available. The walkway along the quay is being dug up and re concreted and will be nice I'm sure but it is so rough to walk and damages your suitcase wheels, and it is so far with no shade. It really spoiled the whole trip. We would do this ferry again as the trip itself was excellent. I just hope they sort out the Pattaya end on arrival.
Ross, Oct 17, 2017 - great trip and stall very polite no complaints at all and ran on time thankyou
Elizabeth, Oct 15, 2017 - Very convenient trip, saving you a lot of time. The crew are all very professional and friendly and the ferry is in excellent condition. Also great working with 12Go Asia. Would definitely recommend both them and this trip.
Keith, Oct 14, 2017 - Ferry ran on time, a smooth trip with no problems - except the huge walk at the Pattaya Pier!
John, Oct 14, 2017 - Excellent service, very fast and efficient. One drawback was I booked early for VIP class seats. Unfortunately they were at the front, with no table, a support column taking space from the seat and absolutely no view! Fortunately there were few passengers and we were able to move to far better seats, so the journey was splendid.
Philip, Oct 14, 2017 - No problems booked on line picked up return tickets everybody very helpful pattaya pier though looked like a building site.
Ross, Oct 13, 2017 - pleasurable trip polite staff but the A.C. was very cold...
Michel, Oct 13, 2017 - Perfect service
Peter, Oct 12, 2017 - Very good service

September 2017

Linda, Sep 30, 2017 - Clean. Efficient. Well worth monies paid.
Ann, Sep 28, 2017 - Excellent, comfortable trip would recommend to all
Shaun, Sep 21, 2017 - Smooth journey. Cabin crew professional. Interior bit shabby (many stains on carpet). And not quite the buisness experience I was expecting. But the seats were very comfortable. Recommend this route journy time can't be beaten. Definitely do again
Alan, Sep 21, 2017 - Well organised, on time and very relaxing. Best go for top cabin, water, juice, coffee and biscuits. Booked on line was no problem from UK and I could use Pay Pal
Karen, Sep 21, 2017 - Good trip & free refreshments served which were very welcome, great no fuss way to get to Hua Hin all part of a lovely holiday.
Bradley, Sep 16, 2017 - Smooth trip with complimentary snack and tea/coffee was good. The check in time was too much (60 minutes), half that would of been more better. Otherwise a great service and I would definitely use again.
Daniel, Sep 15, 2017 - On my last mail and request in June this year, I haven't receive an reply from you. So, if you now have the time and want to check my mail, it would really help me in customer satisfaction. You can always mail me on Daniel.soei@live.nl
Olle, Sep 11, 2017 - Good trip
Melinda, Sep 4, 2017 - I recommend you take the ferry. It was a lovely comfortable trip as the seats were soft and reclined. We paid a little extra for business class and it was well worth it. They said there was no food on board but we were supplied cool drinks and snacks, tea, coffee and refresher towels. The staff were lovely and helpful from beginning to end.

August 2017

Carole, Aug 31, 2017 - Very enjoyable and relaxing. Helpful friendly staff
Glen, Aug 26, 2017 - Nice and easy. Friendly staff. Will use again next visit
David, Aug 22, 2017 - Very rough trip - everyone was sick. They bumped us from business class for some Korean tour group after we paid and they confirmed the booking, without an apology or explanation. These are not "NEW" ferries as advertised - they are old repurposed ones.
Protter, Aug 16, 2017 - Great service. The crew is great. The boat could be better.
Niel, Aug 12, 2017 - The air conditioning unit is almost broken. it's so hot. Other than that, the staff are really friendly, accommodating. Big chair, free refreshments and snacks, and refreshing towel.
