Company Information

Based in Pattaya, Royal Passenger Liner operates catamarans with a capacity of 346 passengers. These ferries offer a choice between economy and business class seats and even VIP rooms which can seat up to eight people. The operation started in January 2017.

Routes served by Royal Passenger Liner

Pattaya–Hua Hin

Royal Passenger Liner operates just one route – Pattaya to Hua Hin. There is one departure each morning at 10.00 from Pattaya, which is scheduled to arrive in Hua Hin for 12.00. Economy tickets are priced at THB1,250 whilst business class fares are available for THB1,550.

Tickets for the return journey from Hua Hin to Pattaya are available at the same price and there is also one service each day, departing Hua Hin at 12.30. There are two VIP rooms available on both these services from THB14,000 and each room has a maximum capacity of eight passengers.

The trip by sea takes just two hours compared to around six hours by road so is ideal for any travellers on a tight schedule. However, travelling with Royal Passenger Liner will cost around three times as much as a bus trip between the two cities, but many visitors will still consider this good value for money based on the amount of time saved.

There is only one service each day in either direction which can be inconvenient for many travellers. It may not be ideal to arrive in Pattaya at 14.30 at the earliest, especially if you have a flight to catch from the airport or you have a connection to a destination elsewhere in Thailand. For many, this arrival time in Pattaya would be too late which could mean that you have to cut your time in Hua Hin short to leave a day earlier and stay overnight in Pattaya. For most visitors this will make little difference but in some cases it can cause a lot of inconvenience.

Although snacks are included on this trip, there is no opportunity aboard the catamarans to purchase meals or additional snacks. Although this trip is only two hours long so it may not be an issue for the majority of passengers, it is worth planning ahead especially if you have travelled for a few hours before you board the ferry.

The sea can be rough on this route so it is well worth bringing sea sickness tablets if this is something that you do suffer with!

Keep in mind

The route between Pattaya and Hua Hin by sea takes just two hours, far preferable than the five or six hours it takes to drive between the two cities.

You have to present a valid ID before boarding the ferry.

Please do come in advance! The departure time really depends on the weather and tides, and they can start off bit earlier than they advertise.

It is a great choice if you value comfort and time more than money. Good for tourists, not very good for frequent commuting.

Travellers reviews

The biggest advantage with travelling with Royal Passenger Liner is the amount of time that you can save compared to attempting the same journey by land. This can be vital if you are on a tight schedule and do not want to miss two of Thailand’s most popular and well-established beach resorts. Many visitors consider the price to be fair considering this journey will not take up an entire day of your holiday, as would be the case with a bus journey.

Some visitors view the limited departures as inconvenient, especially the Hua Hin to Pattaya route as you will not arrive in Pattaya until 14.30 at the earliest. This can cause issues if you are flying from the airport or you need to head elsewhere in Thailand on a connecting bus or train. Similarly, there is just one departure from Pattaya at 10.00 each day, which means that if you are travelling from outside the city to catch this catamaran then you will need to stay one night in Pattaya as 10.00 is likely to be too early for many.

September 2017

Shaun, Sep 21, 2017 - Smooth journey. Cabin crew professional. Interior bit shabby (many stains on carpet). And not quite the buisness experience I was expecting. But the seats were very comfortable. Recommend this route journy time can't be beaten. Definitely do again
Alan, Sep 21, 2017 - Well organised, on time and very relaxing. Best go for top cabin, water, juice, coffee and biscuits. Booked on line was no problem from UK and I could use Pay Pal
Karen, Sep 21, 2017 - Good trip & free refreshments served which were very welcome, great no fuss way to get to Hua Hin all part of a lovely holiday.
Bradley, Sep 16, 2017 - Smooth trip with complimentary snack and tea/coffee was good. The check in time was too much (60 minutes), half that would of been more better. Otherwise a great service and I would definitely use again.
Daniel, Sep 15, 2017 - On my last mail and request in June this year, I haven't receive an reply from you. So, if you now have the time and want to check my mail, it would really help me in customer satisfaction. You can always mail me on
Olle, Sep 11, 2017 - Good trip
Melinda, Sep 4, 2017 - I recommend you take the ferry. It was a lovely comfortable trip as the seats were soft and reclined. We paid a little extra for business class and it was well worth it. They said there was no food on board but we were supplied cool drinks and snacks, tea, coffee and refresher towels. The staff were lovely and helpful from beginning to end.

August 2017

Carole, Aug 31, 2017 - Very enjoyable and relaxing. Helpful friendly staff
Glen, Aug 26, 2017 - Nice and easy. Friendly staff. Will use again next visit
David, Aug 22, 2017 - Very rough trip - everyone was sick. They bumped us from business class for some Korean tour group after we paid and they confirmed the booking, without an apology or explanation. These are not "NEW" ferries as advertised - they are old repurposed ones.
Protter, Aug 16, 2017 - Great service. The crew is great. The boat could be better.
Niel, Aug 12, 2017 - The air conditioning unit is almost broken. it's so hot. Other than that, the staff are really friendly, accommodating. Big chair, free refreshments and snacks, and refreshing towel.
Jessie, Aug 10, 2017 - All was easy, the boat was comfortable and 12go communicated about changes to the schedule.
Andrea, Aug 8, 2017 - Everything Very good!
Arthur, Aug 6, 2017 - I was impressed with the overall journey and tea/coffee/snacks offered. Friendly, helpfull staff. Holding area prior to departure outside and covered. But hot hot hot better if Inside with air con. Good journey across sea, fast. Much better than travel by road.

July 2017

Suguru, Jul 30, 2017 - Ticket office staff missing my booking and I also can't found email attachment show them smoothly so they complain my booking not completed and also requested me to buy another one ticket if I want to use the felly. Finally I found the attachment PDF data for them staff also found my booking by them email. I lost many time at there got complain from them but they didn't do any apologize.
Geoffrey, Jul 27, 2017 - Boarding and baggage procedures went smoothly. Requirement to be checked in 60 minutes before departure was excessive, given the relatively small number of passengers. 30 minutes would give them plenty of time as most passengers only have a carry on bag. Seats were comfortable and some grouped in a four have a table between them. Defining it as Business Class is a bit of a stretch. Our crossing was smooth. Complimentary coffee and snacks were basic, but OK for a 2 hour trip. Definitely better than 6 hour drive from Pattaya to Hua Hin. I would use the ferry service again.
Carla, Jul 22, 2017 - Great service but also feel that the 1 hr check in is a bit long. Beats sitting on a bus eh. Go Kiwi! Holders of the Americas cup
Paul, Jul 20, 2017 - Good clean fast pay extra go buisness class big seat I recommend
Roderic, Jul 13, 2017 - Pleasant trip with complimentary coffee and snacks. Went according to the time. They wouldn't let me have alcohol in my bag but gave it back at other end of trip.
Charles, Jul 2, 2017 - Courteous and professional.
Charles, Jul 2, 2017 - Courteous and professional.

June 2017

Geoffrey, Jun 30, 2017 - Everything went smoothly. The staff were polite and friendly, the seats are comfortable. I will use this service again and would recommend it to other people. Be aware that you cannot take alcoholic drinks on board
Anthony, Jun 27, 2017 - Disappointing to have no wifi on board and especially in business class not to have better choice of food - otherwise all good
Rhian, Jun 25, 2017 - Didn't make it as your emails and phone messages were too knew the day before the time had changed so why did you leave it 15 minutes before departure to send us an email. I had already checked my emails that morning to make sure and I had nothing off you until 11:45.The royal said they'd informed you a few days earlier. We had to cancel our travel plans. Will be recommending everyone book directly with ferry from now on.
Sarah, Jun 19, 2017 - Fantastic service!
Shane, Jun 19, 2017 - Trip on ferry was excellent. Had to wait too long on pier prior to leaving. No need to be there an hour beforehand
Lee, Jun 17, 2017 - Great service. Arrived only 10 minutes before boarding due to bad traffic, they were very understanding and welcoming. Journey seemed to go very quickly and free refreshments were served. No complaints, Happy customer!
Richard, Jun 17, 2017 - Fantastic quiet and fast trip
Ho, Jun 12, 2017 - Good service! Very helpful!
Praveen, Jun 12, 2017 - Booking was easy, prompt communication from 12go. The liner was good, comfortable, good hospitality and a happy sailing.
Alexander, Jun 7, 2017 - I don't think it's good service to allow a ferry to operate with broken air-conditioning. The doors are not permitted to be opened during the trip. So it was like a sauna inside. I saw two people get sick. Additionally, there should be an air-conditioned holding area at the Hua Hin pier. They ask that people arrive an hour before, but you just sit in the heat. There is a roof to cover you, but it was exceedingly hot the day I traveled. This ferry is an excellent idea, but with one scheduled trip a day, these are minimal service requests that lesser-developed countries have. This shouldn't be too hard to accomplish.
Cheung, Jun 5, 2017 - Quiet good

May 2017

Roynard, May 27, 2017 - Efficient and quick. Saved 4 hours of motorway mayhem !
Christopher, May 22, 2017 - Good service. A small shop on board would be good. Also 2 different seats I tried had broke back rests.
John, May 19, 2017 - Perfect trip, and nice personell
Raymond, May 15, 2017 - It was good to see there was security checking baggage and the staff were all very professional and helpful. The crossing itself was easy and the seas were calm, we sat in the Business Class seats and it was well worth the extra cost, the seat was comfortable and you can recline back, I slept for part of the trip. I felt very safe on the ferry, it was in good condition and there was plenty of staff on board to assist with anything.
Kjell, May 14, 2017 - Very good !
John, May 12, 2017 - Very good boat, and quick
Robert, May 11, 2017 - Once again no need to be at departure point so early. Not necessary. Staff very good and smart in their uniforms. Trip enjoyable. Good service.
