Claire HToilets were disgusting basically a hole in the ground. I was a top bunk and no way of getting up except standing on the bed below! Was very wobbly so hard to sleep and bed sheet provided was scratchy! Our train was delayed 2 hours which we only knew by tracking where it was on a map!

Punctual start of the trip but then delayed with 2 hours longer than expected on its path.

Moritz PWe booked online and gave our Thai number. They called us couple of hours later to check if we take the connection and send us an email to confirm once more. Once everything was confirmed, we picked up the ticket at the ticket office of 12go.asia 1 hour before the departure. Just make sure that it takes couple of hours and try to book in advance.

Marino LIt was a good experience and food on board was quite good !
But more than 8 hours seem very long … especially if you are a smoker !

Christine DI paid 1900 baht for a first class sleeper with AC. I understand that I was booking for only 1 person which meant I would have to share with a stranger. But person I had to share with was sick. And not just a little sick, but sniffling, sneezing, snotty, and congested. So I was basically locked inside this little AC first class sleeper with a huge contagious germ.
I’ve used this service before, and didn’t have this experience. But it just goes to show you never know who you’re going to end up bunking with. Had I known, I would have just purchased two tickets or chosen a second class sleeper; for my own sanity.
Then the train arriving to Chumphon was 1.5 hours late. We would have been closer to on time if the train had not stopped for an hour, 1 hour before arriving at Chumphon. So if you’re booking a connecting ferry, make sure to allow time for the train to be VERY late. We were supposed to arrive at 6am. My ferry was to leave at 8am. We arrived at 7:30 and I just barely made my ferry.

Kjell OThe driver arrived well in advance, but was very clear that we did not have to stress.

Franziska We really enjoyed our trip in the 2nd class sleeper carriage. We could sleep very well. We just did not understand why the train was standing for over 1 hour outside Bangkok. And as we had to catch a ferry, it was very tight when we arrived in Chumphon. Luckily the ferry provider who picked us up at the train station accepted to wait until 7:30 am. The train was 2,5hrs. late.

Gary CThe staff are friendly and helpful. But the train is very old and noisy. After leaving like 30+ minutes late, it took an hour to get like 10 miles from the station. Literally this whole train was waiting at traffic lights. No signal prioritization or grade separation or anything. Then we seemed to stop every 20 minutes or so for the first part of the trip to pick up or drop off people. Honestly, this train could be like 2+ hours quicker if they ran express and got prioritization at road crossings. Our room was fine. But it wasn’t entirely clean and it definitely hadn’t been updated in forever. There was no food car so you’re on your own to pack food. I’m glad it had air conditioning but we couldn’t control it in our room so we froze. Better than the alternative I guess. Plus, man was it loud and bumpy! Bring earplugs or sleep may elude you. The train was fun and nostalgic but unless they update the entire system, it’s going to remain a novelty for most people rather than a viable transportation option.
