How to get from Hua Hin to Pattaya

It is 350 km from Hua Hin to Pattaya if you travel by land and only 50 km if you cross the Gulf of Siam by ferry. The sea journey takes 2,5 hours and costs THB1,250 and up; a bus trip sets you back less – between THB350 and THB450 but be ready to spend between 5 and 6 hours as roads around Bangkok are often very congested. Connecting bus, van and train trips via Bangkok are also possible but take longer though may cost significantly less.

Ferry from Hua Hin to Pattaya

By far the fastest way to get to Pattaya from Hua Hin is by ferry which was launched in January 2017. It is a passenger ferry operated by Royal Passenger Liner. There is only one scheduled trip per day in each direction. Note that it can be cancelled in case of stormy weather. The ferry leaves Khao Ta Kiab pier in Hua Hin at 4pm and arrives to Bali Hai pier in Pattaya 2 and a half hours later. Tickets cost THB1,250. Please inquire if you need a VIP cabin.

Arrive to the pier at 30 minutes before the departure for check-in.
Do take medicine if you are prone to seasickness.

Buses from Hua Hin to Pattaya

There is a direct Hua Hin–Pattaya route served by Bell Travel bus company introduced a couple of years ago. The trip normally takes 5 hours 30 minutes though delays may happen, so plan accordingly. The route is served by VIP24 buses which are the most comfortable type of buses available in Thailand. Tickets cost THB470.

In Hua Hin, Bell Travel buses depart from RRC Bus Station, aka New Bus Station. It is located 400 m north of Hua Hin Airport on route 4. In Pattaya, Bell Travel brings you to the Northern Bus Station, 250 m from Sukhumvit Rd. There are plenty songthaews to get to the city from the bus station (THB40 per pax).

Several buses heading from the southern cities and destinations like Hat Yai, Suratthani or Chumphon to Rayong pass through both Hua Hin and Pattaya. One of companies plying this route is Yellow Bus but note that its office is locates closer to Cha Am. You can try to get a vacant seat but during the high season and holidays chances are not high as these buses are normally full.

A more secure option is to travel by bus from Hua Hin to Bangkok and then take another bus from Bangkok to Pattaya. There are numerous buses throughout the day, both direct and passing through. It takes roughly 4 hours to get to Bangkok and 2–3 more hours – to Pattaya plus waiting time at the bus station. Tickets should cost THB200-340 and THB150-250 respectively depending on the company you travel with.

Though the majority of big buses from Hua Hin terminate at the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok, it does not really matter to which terminal in Bangkok you arrive as there are buses to Pattaya from all the three Bangkok bus terminals with the widest array of departures from Ekkamai (Eastern bus terminal).

There are 6 buses a day from Hua Hin to Suvarnabhumi airport (4 hours; THB340) from where there are hourly buses to Pattaya (2 hours; THB150-270) but it does not really make much sense to connect via the airport as buses from Hua Hin depart from the New Bus Station as do all other Bangkok-bound buses.

Vans from Hua Hin to Pattaya

Direct vans do slightly a quicker job delivering you from Hua Hin to Pattaya but currently there is no online booking for these vans. A ride costs THB400 and takes about 5 hours.

An easier way to travel by van is to connect via Bangkok. Nor Neane Transport and JKP Morchit operate from Hua Hin 51 Alley and head to Ekkamai (THB180) and Morchit (THB220) respectively, both trips taking 4 hours. Malee Van transport go to Southern Bus Terminal and start from opposite Market Village Hua Hin close to Soi 71 (3 hours; THB180).

The majority of vans to Pattaya operate from Morchit and Ekkamai, so it is recommended to choose one of these bus terminals for shorter connections (2 hours; THB150).

Taxi from Hua Hin to Pattaya

For a taxi service between Hua Hin and Pattaya try one of the reliable taxi companies like Glassflower or Hua Hin Cars. Both offer 9-pax vans for THB4,600 and economy 3-pax cars for THB3,000. Expect to arrive to Pattaya 4 hours later. Bookable online with instant confirmation.

Train from Hua Hin to Pattaya

All Bangkok-bound trains from the South make a stop at the Hua Hin train station so you have a choice of 13 daily departures. Trains take in average 5 hours to reach Bangkok and costs vary significantly from mere THB50 for a hard seat in a 3rd class carriage to THB400+ for a berth.

There is only a minor railway line linking Bangkok and Pattaya thus there is just 1 train a day leaving Hua Lamphong train station at 6.55am and arriving to Pattaya at 10.30am (THB30). This is obviously the less comfortable way to travel between the two cities but also the cheapest one if you opt for 3rd class seats.

Royal Passenger Lines is probably the best ferry service in Thailand. I’m always happy with this service. I have only one suggestion: buy a few more video tapes to play for your passengers. I’ve watched the same “Just for Gags” 4 times in the last 3 months. It’s funny, but not that funny! Ha ha!

Royal provides excellent service with highly professional, kind and courteous staff on beautiful boats with clean and comfortable seating and other passenger amenities. Compared to some of the other big companies in Thailand, they are your best choice.. hands down.
