(z.B. VIP Züge in Thailand).

Man muss also eine Wahl treffen!

The Violette night train from Hanoi to Hue was very clean and tidy! This also includes the toilets. During night it was quiet and we had a good sleep! All in all a good comfort.

Got the Boarding Pass easily.. train was 20minutes late, first gate 3 was shown, 5minutes later gate 2 and the announcement was only in Vietnamese, just followed the other People..bathroom like in China: smelly and wet and disgusting. No complimentary water and snacks, trash bin full, not being cleaned. These are the reasons for the missing stars..

I could bord the train without even changing the voucher to a ticket. The train was quite clean (at least when leaving Hannoi) but the toilets were really bad. The highlight is for sure the scenery, which is really great especially in the middle part of Vietnam.

Christian+Katja 09/2018

Doesn‘t meet our expectations. For the price of more than 60 EUR p.p. there was no service, AC was running all night, it was definately to cold and only one thin blanket was provided. Beside than it was very loud, a dog barked & whined the whole trip right next to our cabin and the conductor fixed a door around 4 a.m. But mattress was good and compartment clean :-)

Do not buy VIP tickets. It’s a con. They are no different to the normal sleeper. 12go charge double what you’d pay at the station. Not impressed!

They put us on different train (Violette) than we originally booked (and they didn't give us back the difference of 2€). Train was on time. We found everything without problems. Coupe was clean and small but we expected that. Toilets were dirty.

Having travelled Vietnam Railways previously from HCM to Da nang I was expecting a much newer cleaner carriage as per information provided on Violette site. Given the extra cost, I wouldn’t was my money on using one of these private carriers in the future. Just go with the locals still in a soft sleeper. 12go Asia provided very clear specific instructions allowing us to easily redeem our tickets using the voucher.

It was a big hassle to find our beds as the wrong coach was indicated and people at the train station in Danang where incapable of printing us proper tickets indicating the coach and bed numbers. For a VIP train the room was very dirty as were the toilets. It is not worth spending the extra money for the Violet train. Felt a bit like a scam! Save the money just buy regular tickets for 4 bed soft coach. Should be cheaper!

Train room was pleasant enough but sleeping was near impossible ...noisy announcements and our door didn’t close properly but was still lockable.... we’re not sure if snacks were included but guess they were.... thankfully we were 4 people together in one room...hate the thought of sharing with strangers again carriage 9 toilets were blocked within 1 hour of departure.....cheaper to fly but we done it now and yes the last 3 hours scenery was amazing

All in all a good experience no problem exchanging voucher for boarding card train was on time and the cabins were clean a lot better than I had been led to believe. Bed was a little hard but I’ve slept in worse hotel rooms. 1st time I’ve slept on a train so wasn’t the best nights sleep but still got a good few hours. Took my own food but there is a trolley that comes round with some snacks. Plenty of hot water available for pot noodles. Toilet on our coach was blocked and almost overflowing but the next one was working fine. If you want to sit down make sure you take a seat cover and take some toilet paper with you. The views between Hue and Danang are breathtaking! I’d advise any one to to do this just be prepared and you won’t be disappointed

The boarding process was fine. The toilets were blocked and disgusting. The beds were uncomfortable because the mattresses were too thin and, in consequence, we could feel every bump on the train track. Drunken Germans in another couchette made a lot of noise until late at night. Definitely not a first class experience

Despite being told I needed to change my document from 12goasia to tickets with a barcode I didn't. I only needed to turn up at the Violette counter 1 hour before departure. The boarding process was good. The cabin was merely functional despite all the claims it was more luxurious than the standard 4 berth cabins. The toilets were fairly horrendous. Lots of coffee/tea/snacks vendors. My advice save your money and buy a standard 4 berth ticket and buy it from the station ticket office and save $+++

Cabin was as nice as we expected. Looked like the picture, just smaller. The bathrooms even had toilet paper, which is as nice as it gets in some places. It was a little cold so dress warm or bring a jacket. And would suggest Drommamine if you get car sick for the motion of the train.

We booked through 12go.Asia and were very happy with the information provided prior to booking and found the tongue in cheek, say it like it is, info provided with the tickets highly entertaining and having lived in Asia for 10 yrs very accurate! For example they say if you may a phone call to the train operator and you sound like you’re speaking Klingon they will just hang up on you! We travelled in a Violette carriage. Boarding the train at Hanoi was easy. We checked in at the ticketing booth in the waiting room and were told our carriage and cabin number. When we went to go through the barriers the same lady appeared and gave our actual tickets directly to the attendant, to stop us losing it I guess! We couldn’t board the train until 30 mins before dept so the recommended ‘be there an hour before’ is actually plenty of time. The cabin was as expected: 4 berths and a table, 4 bottles of water, 4 over ripe bananas and some ( not very nice) chocolate biscuits. A USB port and reading light above each bed. Plenty of space under the bottom bunks to store suitcases but large hard shell ones may not fit. Top bunks have some small storage shelves by the beds. Each bunk has a small rail and a hook, a pillow, duvet and bottom sheet. It did get a bit cold but a a jumper was sufficient and the children said the top bunks were coldest as they were closer to the aircon. ( note we travelled in Dec and Hanoi was freezing so maybe it wouldn’t be cold in the summer, I don’t know!) We read the reviews in advance and so were prepared with extra toilet roll, disposable toilet seat covers and hand soap: all were def needed. We also took rubber flip flops to wear when going to toilet. We had read the reviews about the bedding not being changed and so took our own silk liners and slept inside them above the sheet, under the duvet and with the pillow inside the pillow pocket; seemed a hygienic way around the problem! I had also been warned about the lack of and quality of food but that there was plenty of free hot water so we took plenty of snacks, coffee and hot chocolate sachets and pot noodles. Take your own spoons and cups etc and a thermos coffee cup/ flask for getting the hot water. We also took wet wipes which were great for freshening up on the train and wiping the sink down for teeth brushing etc. We were so glad we did this journey by train. The experience was fun, the scenery was interesting and beautiful. It was much less stressful than flying and probably what me and my children( 16 and 13) will talk about more than anything else when we return from our trip. Additional point: we were in a Violette cabin, the state run 1st class cabins seemed the same except the bottom fitted sheet was more like a thinly padded mat placed on top of the mattress but apart from that exactly the same. Both these carriages seemed to have similar people in them ( I don’t mean race, there was a mixture of Caucasians, Asians, Indian etc) by that I mean friendly and respectful when we walked through the carriages. The locally run 2nd class carriages were the same except that they had 3 bunks on each side so you couldn’t sit upright and less storage space. Because of that there were more people spilling into the corridors chatting loudly or on their phones and gathering and smoking where the carriages connected. It was not intimidating at all but it was quite noisy with chatting and phone calls. Whereas the Livitrains and Violette were quieter and more restful. Equally there would have been more people to share the bathrooms etc. If you choose to take a seat and not a cabin that seemed fine too for the money. We would have considered that had we been just adults but it wouldn’t have been as relaxing. For example some people were playing games on their phones without turning their sound down and that would’ve got on my nerves after 16 hours! If I did it again (and we def would!) the only thing we would take extra would be an eye mask each and some good ear plugs but it was fine - we didn’t really expect a really good nights sleep but what we got was okay!

Overall the experience was OK, but now - when we can compare to a lower class trains - it can be counted as a good one actually. Minuses: - the train shakes really hard, it’s hard to walk and not so easy to sleep - not very clean (1 cockroach seen, old stains on the sheets, the toilet was not super clean) - super noisy staff (especially in the morning)

The train ride itself was fine. I knew it was going to be long and not so spacious. However, I was not prepared for how dirty the hallways and bathrooms were going to be, especially considering the way it was advertised on their own website. Most (if not all) of the toilets were not flushing and considering the fact that the train was bumpy, this was a fairly horrendous sight. It got so bad that we ended up avoiding the bathroom all together for the last 4-5 hours. Furthermore, we were so concerned about the our train from Danang to Ho Chi Minh that we decided to purchase flights instead and eat the cost of the train tickets. A plus was that the last 4 hours of the ride was met with gorgeous views of the countryside and the ocean. So beautiful in fact that it almost made up for everything else. While I am open to this situation being below the average experience, please consider our feedback when determining a flight or train ride.
