High competition, increases in fuel costs and the cost of operating the aircraft became a reason to suspend flights from Luala Lumpur to Los Angeles by Malaysia Airlines. The carrier has a long history of cooperation with it, but it came to an end.

As the route is no longer economically viable it will be canceled on 30 April this year. The Malaysia Airlines Authorities have expressed regret and promised passengers to find alternative way to reach Los Angeles from Kuala Lumpur.

The carrier will continue to operate other routes to USA, such as to San Francisco, Atlanta, Washington, Boston, Houston, Portland, Seattle, Las Vegas, San Diego, Honolulu and Minneapolis.
